Known about the Back family: Thoms Jefferson Back (B. about 1840) married Elizabeth Phillips (B.about 1840) in Marion County Kentucky. They had five children. Three of the children are: Melissa Ann (b.1873) Thomas Jefferson (b.1878) and Rose Mary (B.1879). Birth dates of the other two are not known, but rumor has it that one of the others was a twin to either Melissa or Thomas. In 1892, Elizabeth and the five children left Kentucky by wagon train heading for Waxahatchee, Texas. I firmly believe that there was already family there. Possible Backs. On the trail two of the children died. She settled in Palmer, Texas with the three remaining children, joined a Baptist church there. Later the church disbanded and all the records were lost. Melissa married James Frances Smith and moved to Oklahoma. Rose married Eli Hobson Whitley and moved to (whereabouts unknown). Thomas (my grandfather) married Hattie Elizabeth Stewart and settled near Waxahatchee, Texas.
