Perkin's Battalion Missouri Infantry CSA

Recruited by a Capt. Caleb Perkins. It was composed primarily of men recruited North of the Missouri river. It started off being a Cavalry unit. Around Sept. 1864 it managed to cross the Missouri river and head South. Perkins' Battalion was assigned to Col. Chas. H. Tyler's brigade of Mo. recruits. Lt. Col. Caleb Perkins was 1st Commander and later commanded by Lt. Col. Quinton Peacher. It accompanied Gen. Sterling Price on his 1864 Missouri raid. In Dec. 1864 the unit was dismounted and used as infantry. In April 1865 it was assigned to Mitchell's Infantry brigade, Parson's Division.

Perkins' battalion was paroled June 7th at Alexandria, LA. No muster rolls are known to exist. The only roster available is that compiled from POW records.

1909--MRS. LAURA BAGBY DEAD--Mrs. Laura Luella Bagby was born in
Macon county, Mo, March 15, 1857. She was the daughter of W. H. and Sarah Ann
Johnson and granddaughter of Rev. Samuel C. Davis, of precious memory.
She was united in marriage to Wm. B. Bagby on Nov 11, 1875, who died July 25,
1890. To this union were born seven children, three of whom preceded her to the glory
world. The four living are Victor E. and Lester Z. Bagby and Mrs. Nora Fullington and
Mrs. Sarah Ann Fullington. She also leaves five grandchildren.
She made a profession of religion and with her husband united with the Sweet
Springs Cumberland Presbytereian church in June, 1888. Hers was a life of sorrow and
great affliction, yet she endured all, "as seeing Him who is invisible." She was a woman
of deep religious conviction, wielding an influence for good upon all her family, friends
and neighbors. She greatly loved the church and found it her chiefest joy to engage in the
service of the Lord's house with the people of God.
In the latter years of her life she was a great sufferer from heart trouble, from
which she died on Nov 13, 1909, surrounded by her loved ones who tenderly ministered
to her every want. But no human help could avail. The Master called her from the toils
and sufferings of earth to eternal rest and joy in heaven.
