Bailey is a small town in the southwestern part of Nash County on Highways 264 and 581 and was incorporated in the early 1900's. It is the home of the "Country Doctor Museum." There are a number of other historic buildings along Main Street and throughout the town.
I am a descendant of John Bailey and Nancy Sanders on my paternal side and Alonzo Allen and Oda Williams on my maternal side. The Bailey's are from Nash County, Bailey Township, Bailey, North Carolina.

1. JOHN BAILEY was born Abt. 1801 in North Carolina, and died Bef. 1885. He married NANCY SANDERS November 20, 1834 in North Carolina, daughter of SION SANDERS and ELIZABETH FERRELL. She was born Abt. 1808 in Nash County, North Carolina, and died Bef. 1885.

There is a pay voucher for a John Bailey in Nash County who fought in the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War Soldier, John Bailey, may be a relative of the John Bailey who married Nancy Sanders; however, to date no evidence has been found to link the two John Bailey’s. Below is a transcription of the pay voucher that is on file in the North Carolina Archives and History collection, Raleigh, North Carolina. Some portions could not be transcribed because the document has been punched.
North Carolina No. 1321
Acceptable to Act of Assembly, passed in May, one thousand seven hundred and eighty-four, the State of North Carolina is indebted to John Bailey of the Continental line of this State, One Thousand, seven hundred [text missing], specie, on [text missing] pay [text illegible]. 1783 [text missing] six percent interest from the first [text missing] 1783. Dated at Halifax, the first of September 1784.
Two Commissioners signed the pay voucher. The first signature was illegible and the second commissioner’s signature was signed Wm. McCulloch. The name Jack Rhodes is written along the right-hand border of the pay voucher. £13.7.6
John Bailey and Alford Bailey applied for a marriage bond about November 20, 1834 for John Bailey and Nancy Sanders. [Bailey was spelled “Baily” on the document.]
The August 1850 census listed John Bailey’s occupation as a farmer, and the value of the real estate he owned was estimated to be worth $300. Also, the census noted that John could not read or write.
