Chief Cornstalk was murdered in 1777, at Fort Pleasant in Mason, WV
He was Chief leader of the Shawnee in the 1700's. He had many wives, and many
children, and led many battles.He was theChief of the entire Shawnee nation.
Chief Cornstalk lived with the Creeks in Alabama for s short time in 1755, and again in 1757
during the French-Indian war. He was lead Chief of Shawnee at Bushy Run, and led raid in New-Greenbrier-Jackson River valleys in 1763, led raiding Ohio-Little Kanawha-Big Sandy-Kanawha-
New River valleys 1772, was lead Chief at Point Pleasant in 1774, and Chief of 20 tribe North
Confederacy about 1755-1777.InJune 1762 negotiated treaty with ColThomas Lewis and Col
William Preston at mouth of Big Sandy River.
There was a town in Ohio, "Cornstalk's Town" located on the norht bank of the Scippo Creek
in Pickaway County, Ohio. It was just east of the present U. S. Highway 23 and approximately
where Gold Cliff Park is today.
Cornstalk had a sister, Nonhelema, called "GRENADIER SQUAW" by the British because of
her imposing stature.She was 6ft 6inches tall, and she put on war paint, and went into battle with
the male indians.She was married to Moluntha, who was killed in 1786.
