The BAKER family started in MA, VA, and Chowan, Gates, Northampton, Perquimans, Pasquotank, and Bertie Counties in Northeastern North Carolina. Also Southeastern Virginia, Norfolk, Princess Anne County, Tennesse, Isle of Wight County, Indiana, & Pennsylvania. Then traveled on across the US ending up in California.

Lucinda Baker married Willie Blount, a governor of Tennessee.

The Baker family owned an estate called Buckland in the North Carolina area since at least the 1670-1680's, and had their home there for five (5) generations. The Buckland Plantation, located six (6) miles north of the Gates County seat of Gatesville, was built around 1795 by William Baker and owned the 3rd Manor house, by John Blake of Virginia, whose daughter was Mary Blake, and her husband was Henry Baker. The BAKER'S lived in the area of Gates, Albermarle Sound, Perquimans County, NC. William Baker like his father Henry and brother Lawrence, divided his energies between politics and planting. As a member of the State House of Commons in 1778 William Baker introduced the bill to create Gates County.
