Descendants of Frederick Schwander

Generation No. 1

      1. Frederick1 Schwander was born Aft. 1725 in Howenstein, Switzerland, and died Aft. 1780. He married Katherina Abt. 1750.

Notes for Frederick Schwander:
There is documented proof that Frederick came to America on the ship Crown, and landed Aug. 30th, 1749.

The following is an excerpt from Rev. John I. Swander's book, written in 1899, "The Swander Famiy" - In 1732 there was a family near Howenstein in Switzerland by the name of Swander. The family included a number of generations, then living. The grandfather was 104 years old, the father was eighty and his sons were ten in number. One of these had taken the name of Frederick. Frederick was still unmarried and seeing that the most legitimate purpose of holy matrimony could not be carried out for lack of room began to think of emigrating to America. He resolved to come and he did. His father and grandfather both accompanied him on foot a distance of 6 miles to the place of embarkation. With a father's blessing, Frederick left the Fatherland.
Frederick left Canton of Berne in Switzerland and came to this country, landing in Philadelpheia in 1732. Soon after his arrival, he purchased and settled upon the land which is now situated as a part of Allentown, Lehigh Co, Pa.
Frederick married in this country, and the union was blessed with two sons, John Adams and Jacob. John Adams married and begat children, but his posterity is all extinct. All Swanders in this country are, therefore, the descendants through Jacob.
