2. JAMES L.2 BOGGS (JOHN1) was born 1752 in North Carolina, and died 1835 in Blaine, Lawrence County, Kentucky. He married (1) ELIZABETH CLEMENT, daughter of HUGH CLEMENT and JANE. She was born 1759 in Ireland. He married (2) JANE STEIN. He married (3) LYDIA BIRCHFIELD-ROSE.

In the name of GOD amen.
I, James Boggs Sr, of Lawrence County and the State of Kentucky, Being weak in body, but perfect in memory, Knowing all men must die.
      First of all I commit my soul in the hands of almighty GOD that gave it and my body to a decent burial, do now make this my last will and testement, that is to say, one horse, four head of cattle, and all the hogs that I have except the hourd gangue and all the household furniture.
      I will and bequeath to my beloved wife Lydia Boggs and the plantation that I now live upon, as long as she remains my widow. Together with her two youngest children, ora as she is of a mind to stay upon the place, and for no other person or persons to meddle with the plantation. Given under my hand this first day of November 1832. His X mark James Boggs

      This was the last will and testement of James Boggs, Sr. Was Produced in open court and proved by the oath of William Ison, and I. O. Sparks, two of the subscribing witnesses thereunto, to be the last will and testement of said James Boggs, Sr. Whereupon said will was ordered to record, which is done, June 16, 1835.

      James L. Boggs came from Surry co., North Carolina to the southwest Virginia area of Calhoun Creek, near Stonega, in Wise co. about 1780. James Boggs is listed on the 1782 Tax List in Black Mountain to the had of Frank's Creed to live with his son Eli. Later he lived in cabin nearby. James eventually moved to Lawrence co., Kentucky, near Blaine, where he died in 1832. He is buried on the Nelson Rice farm in the Nelson Rice Cemetery. Jame's first child, John, was born in 1778, Surry co., NC. His second child was Eli who was born 1781, Wise co., VA. Third child, Ellen, born 1782, VA.
      Abel Boggs was born in 1812, near Calhoun, Wise co., and the first of the Boggs family to migrate across the big black mountain from the Sonega, Virginia area down into Franks Creek at Eolia, Letcher co., Kentucky. Abel was the son of Eli, born 1786. Abel is listed in the 1840 census of Harlan (now Letcher) co., KY, living in the Eolia area and the first of the Boggs family to migrate into Kentucky.
      Jane Stein, proof as wife of James: 1800-1819, wife signed deeds as Jane.
