Notes for Forrest Fred Baker:
He was born on a farm outside of Waterloo, IA which today is in the
eastside of the town, fully grown. His father left and his mother married
Frank Cole who raised him. While in his early teens his father had him
driving a concelled booze truck during probation. With his mother's
signature entered the Navy while still in his teens. Information is not
specific but two ledgers exist from his Navy days. These ledgers list
ports he entered and is full of dance cards primarily from Japan. While
still in the Navy while on leave he asked Invalene to marry him and they
married shortly after he got out of the service. In the beginning they
were poor and he had a number of jobs. Tells of being fired from John
Deere the first time hitting the supervisor with a shovel. During his 37
years a Deere's he left a couple of times to sell encycolapedia and
cookware. Was a district manager and made very good money but was on the
road alot. Ended up going back to Deere's to have a more stable life.
After he initially retired from Deere's parked himself in front of the TV
and watched soap operas. At some point he got involved with the Moose
Lodge and that was his central point in his life until he died. Best known for
his seven car garage and having every tool in the world which his friends would
barrow and never return. Next would be his basement with fully stocked
bar, pool table and his cigarette lighter collection. He was a hard man
but was a good teacher in his own way. Always said it took him three wives to
have a girl and it did. Second wife, Quedia, was what he would call a paid baby
sitter which he did pay dearly for in the long run. Only lasted 4-5 years. When
he died, of everything,he willed his body to the University of Iowa for
medical research. They returned it a year later which shocked everyone.
