Formerly designated as 6th (Liken's) Battn Texas Infantry. Joseph C. Baker was discharged from Co. I, 13th Texas Cavalry on 24 May 62 because of the new conscription act passed by the Confederate Congress in April 62, that exempted from service all men under 18 and over 35. Joseph is listed on the March muster as 15 years old. He had enlisted in Orange Co., TX on 1 Mar 62. He was discharged at Camp Burnett, near Porter's Springs, Houston County, Texas when the regiment was reorganized to comply with the new law. The age requirements were ignored later in the war when Joseph joined the 33rd Texas Cavalry.
