Notes for S
USAN HOWRY KARNES:
When Henry Wax died, his camel back trunk with all his possessions was given to his sister, Susan H. (Karnes) CORLEY. The trunk was still in the HAGGERTON family as late as 1926. There were official letters to and from Sam HOUSTON and Thomas J. RUSK. Karnes wrote a letter to Thomas J. RUSK to inform President HOUSTON he was resigning but the letter was never mailed or Henry kept a copy of the letter. There was also a copy of the will.

Susan (Karnes) CORLEY told her grandson she sold her brother Henry’s property in San Antonio for $1500. When asked why she sold it so cheap, she said, "15 hundred in hand is better than $50 thousand in a bush." All the property in East Texas was never sold to the knowledge of our branch of the family.
