  Notes for FREDERICK ASTLEY BAKER:
Frederick was an electroplater, and upon the death of his father John Baker I, he was left out of John's will and the entire business on 33 Powell Street was left to his half brother John Baker II. He left Birmingham sometime later for America, and after a few years, he returned to England, to live with his brother Charles and wife Sarah, in Erith, Kent in 1888. In 1889, Charles saw him off at Liverpool, to return to America. Frederick wrote to his brother Alfred from Meridian, Connecticut in September 1891, where he was employed by an electroplating firm that had 6000 employees. Another letter was received from Bridgeport, Connecticut in June 1897. He had paid for some storage to a firm in Birmingham to the end of May and June 1897, but was sold for non payment in 1900. He never used any addresses and mail was always sent to a general delivery Post Office. His handwriting was compared with letters sent to England to a small notebook that was located in Allentown, Pa., to help settle his estate. He lived in the same house for 20 years on Staten Island, New York and worked in a machine shop. As far as is known, he was never married. He died in Manhatten State Hospital, New York, USA. His burial was on Staten Island, Richmond County, New York. Having died intestate, solicitors had to locate all persons related, and this turned out to be a wealth of information. Other than no known addresses, he was particular that his full name be used on everything.
