John II was listed as an electroplater of Great Hampton Street. Birmingham, Warwick., England. The will of his father, John I, left the electroplating shop, tools,, and equipment at 33 Powell Street to John II. This may have been the cause of the disagreement between the family, because the other sons were left out of any inheritance.
The 1861 census lists John Baker son - age 23 - unmarried, occupation Silver Plater.
