Notes for Elizabeth Tischhauser: 1867 near Abilene Dickenson Co. Kansas 1870 Enterprise, Kansas 1877 Valley Falls, Kansas
Obituary from Kansas Newspaper Elizabeth, daughter of Paul and Margaret Tischhauser, was born July 12, 1857 at Ashford, Fon Du Lac county, Wisconsin. At the age of seven years, she with her parents, brothers and sisters, moved over land in covered wagons, to Dixon County, Kansas, near Abilene, where they homestead a big farm. She shared in the hardships of pioneer's life, and spent many, long days on a pony, herding sheep and driving away the wolves. Her parents born in Switzerland were members of the German Reformed Church and in this belief was baptizes and confirmed. At the age of twelve she went to Enterprise and lived there until her marriage to Ernest W. Benedix Oct. 12 1874 when she was 17. Rev. S. P. Harrington later the first regular pastor at Grasshopper Falls (Now Valley Falls) performed the ceremony of marriage. To this union nine children were born: Albert E. of Los Angeles, Calif. ; Margaret L. of ST. Louis, Mo. ; William P. of Washington D.C.; Herman A. of Oelwein, Iowa; Mrs. Mabel A. Carroll, Alliance Neb.; Inez A. at home; Mrs. Ernestine Niemann, Potter, Kansas; also Walter and Clarence who died in infancy. She also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Rohrer, Abilene, Kansas; Mrs. Mary Wenzel , Enterprise, Kansas; and one brother, Leonardo Tischhauser, Abilene. She has eight grand children . Five brothers and five sisters have preceded her in death. She moved to Valley Falls in 1877 and with the exception of one year in Calif, and a few months in Ark. has made her home here since. 1885 she united with St. Pauls Evangelical Lutheran Church in Valley Falls, and has been a faithful member ever since. Mrs Benedix was a good, loving woman whose home and family were ever her first thought and care. A loving mother and a faithful help meet to her husband, she yet had time and interest to be a good neighbor and friend, and won the affection and esteem of all who knew her. She was an active member of the Ladies Circle of the G.A.R. post here, a worker in the Lutheran Ladies Aid, and a member of the Forget--Me-Not club. For years she has been in poor health from Diabetes, and has suffered the last three years from Neuritis, though not confined for any long period of time. She has had the faithful care of her youngest daughter, Miss Inez in her many sicknesses. Her last illness was of three weeks thought she has been very poorly since new year's the cause of her death was diabetic coma, which set in Wednesday morning as she passed away in mid- afternoon. The funeral was conducted from St. Pauls church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 by Rev. Paul Tonsing and Rev. Chase H. Kimball; burial in Rose Hills Cemetery. All children were present except Albert E., of Los Angeles. A number of near relatives from abroad were present.

Dear Cathy- How exciting to hear from you & yes I am Ann T. and I've been trying to track down Elizabeth T. Benedix family for a ong time. I had a letter from what was probablu uour Grandmother who was bedfast at her daughters home. I believe I sent that name and address to Charles Lidell, whose last address is 23505 S. Crenshaw Blvd. Suite 107 Torrance, Calif 90505. I am a widow and had lived on a farm until Dec. 2, 1982 when I came to the Brown Memorial Home near Abilene KS. I have a small room here so don't keep much here. Most of my things are in my 8 room farm home. But I have had several heart attacks and can not stay alone there. I don't have my Tischhauser material with me, but my husband Mervin and myself went to Grabs Switzerland to the church where the T. records were kept backk to 1733 so I can send you those records whenI can get them from the farm. I have sent them to Charles L. as well as several others. The Paul T. and Elizabeth T. Benedix moved from here to Valley Falls Kansas. Paul and Elizabeth being brother & sister. The T. came to Americas 1854 from Grabs Switzerland to Ashford, Fon Dulac County Wis rather than Milwalkie. Elizabets half sister Katherine T. Rufener age 92 Feb. 7, still lives at Madros, Oregon. Paul T's grandson and Great Grandson Nicholas Meyer came to T.'s reunion in Sept. from Gilbert Ark.
