Through internet searches, and having a Family Tree Maker home page, I have been able to connect with some cousins and work together to pursue our family history.
Primarily, we are seeking the family of Gilbert Baldwin and Sarah Waddell. The first clear clue we have is Gilbert in Gallia County, Ohio, arriving from "Upper Canada" around 1815. Prior to that, we have conflicting information: New York, Virginia, Ireland, Vermont, etc. We believe that Gilbert's father was Daniel Baldwin, (from England), married to a ? Paley.
Gilbert's first wife, Lindsey (also referred to as Malinda), King died, leaving him with two small children (Elizabeth and Jared). He married Sarah Waddell, and they had four children: John, Mary Francis, William, and James. John, William, and James were Blacksmiths. Mary married Francis Howe. Gilbert and Sarah migrated from Gallia County, OH, to Montgomery County, Indiana, (1830s) to Michigan City, Indiana, where Gilbert Baldwin was one of the first settlers. Gilbert died in 1836.
I am a descendent of William Baldwin. William died at the age of 27 of Typhoid fever in the Civil War. He is buried at Grafton National Cemetery, West Virginia. William married Eliza Cummins, who died in 1853, at the age of 25. They had three children: John, Anjalin, and Francis. William then married Eliza's sister, Susannah. They had three more children: Eliza Ellen, Sarah Asenath, and William Bertram. My line continues through William Betram Baldwin.
William Bertram Baldwin married Ida Bloomer, daughter of John Bloomer and Elizabeth Smith. In 1899, they homesteaded to Minnesota. Their children were: William Francis, Gracie May, Ralph Mick, Owen Bertram, and Mabel E. Baldwin. William Francis was my Grandfather.
