- Emanuel Reason Coxen and family (57 KB)
Bottom row far right is Olive Coxen Busenbark. To her immediate right, I believe, is Emanuel Reason Coxen, her father. The rest of the people are his other children,Oscar Leonard(back row far right, I now believe), Orville Eddie, Osmer Frank, Omar Willie, Oretta May, Olinda Leota and Oraell Clarence, and Orange Clarence.Since there are only 8 younger people..one is missing but I do not know which one.Anybody got any ideas?? - Minerva Ellen Miner Coxen's grave (96 KB)
Wife to Emanuel, mother to Olive, grandmother to Beryl and Nancy (and the rest). This picture did not take too well as did the one of the grave next to her's...their son, Orsa Elmer who died from pneumonia after his mother's funeral.I won't put that pic on...really dim.Whe I go back this summer, I need to verify her birthdate as it looks to be different than what I had before. - Dow Busenbark (father to Beryl Sloop Beard) (12 KB)
Quite a distinguished man....teacher, newspaper editor and good citizen! - Homer's daughter...Cleo Blanche Busenbark (68 KB)

This building has been rehabbed...you can go in but we did not.I think there are lawyer's offices in it now.I got a neat book on the history of Wabaunsee County and it has lots of old photographs of Eskridge and Alma (Dow and Olive lived there when he was Superintendent of schools!).There is tons of history in the area...it really was the wild west at that time...shootings and gangs of bushwackers! - Dow Busenbark and his sons (205 KB)
Standing are Hoy and Loyal, seated is Dow and Homer with Ross in the center.Photo from Barbara Call, Homer's grandaughter - The M.E. Church in Eskridge (83 KB)

These are Dow's mother and father.Know nothing about her but a lot about him thanks to a funeral book which Mary Lee gave me.I will include some of his obit. in the Busenbark book on this webpage. - Coming into Eskridge, Kansas (107 KB)
This was the town that the Dow Busenbarks moved to first in 1877 then they moved back to Indiana then back again to Eskridge in 1882. They MUST have traveled by covered wagon, I would guess.ER Coxen also lived here for a while.Dow was editor and owner of the newspaper here and taught school here.In 1909, he sold the newspaper and bought the Lyndon Herald and they moved there.I found all this out just after visiting Eskridge and Lyndon..a local historian sent me Dow and Olive's obits.I will put them in the Busenbark book on this website for anyone to have access to. - The older Busenbarks as young children (118 KB)
Top are Hoy and Maude, then Loyal, Homer and Blanche. So cute! Thanks Barbara Call! - Cleo Blanche Busenbark Horne's grave (95 KB)
This was Aunt Nan and G'ma's sister who died young in childbirth.I remember G'ma talking about her...they called her Bonnie and she was very pretty and sweet.I have her funeral book in which Aunt Nan wrote a little essay....as did her brothers and other family members. Her baby,a boy, did live and was raise by his father's sister..am seeking more info about him and his descendants. - Coxen area of the graveyard (70 KB)
This is the area where E.R., Minerva and some of the other Coxen's are buried..some are in other areas and the Busenbarks are scattered around. We never found Dow and Olive's graves but will next time we go. - Mae Busenbark and her mother in law, Olive (86 KB)
I admire Olive...but will have to admit, she doesn't LOOK like a really wonderful mother-in-law...hopefully she was though. But as Barbara says, Mae was a "babe"!Photo from Barb. - Hoy Busenbark's Grave (121 KB)
Hoy was shot...murdered while watching a wrestling match which got out of hand. All the info regarding his shooting is on page 5 in the Book: Facts about the Busenbarks..the link is at the top of this page. - Another Coxen area (106 KB)

It was very moving for both Mike and me to see his grave. He seems as if he was such an admirable man.I did put flowers there and will again this summer to honor him.For those of you who may have forgotten, he was Olive Coxen Busenbark's father...grandfather to Beryl and Nancy. And a Civil War veteran. - The Dow Busenbark family (62 KB)
