George Lewis Truscott (son of Walter Hicks Truscott and Johanna Runnels) was born November 13, 1849, and died July 09, 1912 in Creston, B.C.. He married Hannah Hendy Rail on July 09, 1872 in St Pauls Church, Devonport, Devon.
Notes for George Lewis Truscott: George Lewis was a Coastguard after being in the Royal Navy. Upon retiement he and his family moved to London where they became very involved in the social concerns of the day and became early members of the British Labour Party. He signed the nomination papers for Kier Hardy the first elected Labour Party member of Parliament George Lewis, his wife Hannah and all of their children except Walter and George joined the Barr Colonists in April 1903 to sail from Liverpool to Barr's "chosen land" in Saskatchewan. George, his wife Elsie, their infant child Ena and brother Walter had left England earlier to work in Elsie's uncle's lumber mill in Vermont. They joined the family as they passed through Quebec to be part of the settlement but not as Barr Colonists. George and his family homesteaded in the Black Hills area near Battleford while the rest went on to homesteads at what became Lloydminster. When George Lewis became ill in or about 1910 he, Hannah, and most of the family moved to the East Kootenays of British Columbia to become fruit farmers. George stayed on his farm in Battleford until later when he and his family moved to the West Kootenays at Nelson where he was able to use his shipwright skills on the boats on Kootenay Lake.
