Notes for Mary Katherine Willis:
Kate Willis was born at Rotherwood, shortly after the family returned from West Virginia where her father, Turpin, had run a truck farm. He purchased Rotherwood sometime shortly before her birth and had just moved the family in after fixing up the house when Kate (later Katie) was born. There was a fire in the kitchen wing of the house when Kate was 1-2 months old. She almost died since she was asleep in the bedroom over the kitchen, and they forgot her.

When Kate was a rebellious teenager visiting Presque Isle with her family she said at the dinner table, "I'm so glad I'm a Willis...." at which everyone at the table beamed "That way I won't have to marry one."

Confirmed March 13, 1955 at St. Paul's Church, Kenwood, Chicago by the Rt. Rev. Gerald Francis Burrill 8th Bishop of Chicago.
