Richard Billings (son of Roger Billings and Katherine)28, 29 was born Bet. 1550 - 1560 in Baltonsborough, Somersetshire, England, and died Aft. 1604. He married Elizabeth Strong on 1585 in Taunton, Somersetshire, England, daughter of Ebenezer Strong.
Notes for Richard Billings: Genealogy of William Billing, by Frank Billings, page 48. Richard Billing, the eldest son of Roger Billing and called Richard the elder, removed to Taunton, where he married Elizabeth, daughter of Ebenezer Strong of that place, and was possessed of landed property. In his will he made bequests for the reparation of the C hurch of St. James, in Taunton, to the poor of that parish and of Baltonsborough, and left twenty shillings to his brother Richerd (the younger) to make him a ring in rememberance of him.
Royal Ancestors of Some American Families" says: Richard Billings and Elizabeth Strong were the grandparents of Roger and William Billings, two cousins who came to Massachusetts. The above Billings connection to Catherine Giffard and Sir Thomas Billings has a very good chance of being correct, but there is no conclusive proof. The line was originally accepted as proven by "Ancestral Roots "(1950 & 1964 ed.) but later dropped because the proof was determined toobe "not satisfactory" (see 1969 edition, p. xvi). See also "Ancestral Roots" (1976 ed.), bottom p. xxxvi. The connection to Catherine Giffard is questionable. (source: Jim Steven's Genealogy Homepage)
