Francis Marion Ball was a medical doctor. He received his medical training while a Catholic Priest?? He later left the priesthood and married. His reason(s) for leaving the ministry is yet unknown.


Obit:
F.M. Ball had no listing for parents...he had been living with his
daughter Mrs. Clara (?) Mealy in Anoka Count when he died....Mrs.. Charles
Mealy, Miss Ethel Mealy and George Ball attended from out of town (being
Howard Lake)

Hi Charlotte and Terry...I went to Wright County yesterday and searched through the HIatorical Society...found a few other references to F.M.Ball...one bio resource states that he moved to New Albany, IN, when he was 9 years old and a the name of the doctor that he first studied medicine with before studying at Marin County Medical School in Kentucky. (I forgor to get the citations, cover page, etc...do you need those Charlotte ?) I also found out that F.M. was a Freemason...I should be able to get his membership info from the main MN chapter...one of the questions that is asked for membership is his parents' names...here's hoping !

F. M. Ball was born in Pickaway, O., May 27, 1839, and studied medicine at
New Albany, Ind., and at Marion County Medical School, Kentucky. He served
in the army in 1861-64, and came to Minnesota and engaged in the practice
of medicine at Jordan and Cokato. In 1880 he moved to Howard Lake."

Death Cert:
Francis Marion Ball died November 29, 1918 at Oak Grove, Anoka County, MN...birth date was May 27, 1839; he was 79 yrs 5 mos 2days old. Doctor of Medicine. Born in Ohio. Name of father : not known, born NY Maiden name of mother: Esther Johnson, born NY. He died of uremia, duration about 1 month. Also suffered from nephritis. Information provided by Mrs. F.M. Ball of Anoka , MN He is buried in Howard Lake, MN

Mary Elizabeth Hardy, was born May 15,1840, at Elkhart, Indiana. The
oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hardy, both deceased. She was
married to Dr. F. M.Ball of Peoria, Il Aug. 2, 1859"...the obit lists
names of children who she left to mourn her death..."she also leaves two
sisiters: Mrs. Harrison Hardy and Mrs. Frank Collmer; two brothers:
F.D.Hardy and Albert Hardy, all of South Bend, IN."

Those attending from out of town were: G.M. Ball of Bruno; Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. Mealey, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Mealey and daughter Madge, Mrs. Ernest
Cyr, Clarence Nicol, Orrin Nicol of Mpls. and Mr. and Mrs. L.C. Rausch of
Windom (MN).

  Notes for Golda Ball:
Golda Ball married a man by the name of William Bennett and they moved west
to Stevens County, Washington. Golda was FM and ME Ball youngest
child. Golda died after having at least 3 children and William remarried.
I knew the women that he married as his second wife. It seems like just
yesterday but in 1979 my mother and I visited her and stayed with her for a
couple of days. It is hard for me to believe it was over 20 years ago that
we made that trip. We also drove down to central Oregon to visit one of
Golda daughter by the name of Lois. But we found that they had had to go
to the Oregon coast to help there son, and were not at home.
