Along with his brother Pete and Don, Estevan Vera Banegas served as an Army Paratrouper during World War II. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, among others. After the war, he was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, including the VFW "Coodies" organization. He raised his family on a farm he settled in 1939 in Hatch, New Mexico.
