A former Clairton resident, Walter J. Norris, 70, of 735 Scott Drive, Crown Point, Ind., died Saturday.

Friends will be received after 7 p.m. today at the Elva K. Whetsel Funeral Home, Clairton, where the Reverend Leander Ecola will conduct services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Jefferson Memorial Park.

Mr. Norris was born Feb. 10, 1897, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Joseph and Fannie Ryan Norris. He was a welder in U.S. Steel’s Clairton Works before retirement and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Clairton.

Husband of the late Hildur Johnson Norris, he leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Ann Sykes, with whom he resided; sons, Kenneth E. Norris of Bethel Park, Walter J. Jr. of West Mifflin, Melvin of Fairless Hills, and Donald D. of Jefferson; a brother, Edward Norris of Pittsburgh; a sister, Mrs. Nellie McMenamin of Steubenville, O.; and ten grandchildren.
