Henry Clements Barstow (son of Thomas Barstow and Anne Susanna Jones) was born August 08, 1838 in Elsdon Castle Yorkshire, and died April 13, 1922. He married Cecilia Clementina Baillie on December 26, 1871 in St Michael Le Belfrey, York, daughter of John Baillie and Cecilia Mary Hawkins.

HCB was educated at Uppingham, where he was Captain of the School in 1855-6. He was in the cricket XI for 3 years and was captain in his last year.
HCB was a scholar of St John's Cambridge. He took a BA in 1860. The same year he took the Indian Civil Service exam, and was 26th.
In 1870 HCB was admitted to the Inner Temple.
HCB served in various posts in India. Before retiring from India in 1886 on the Annuity Fund, he was the Magistrate and Collector 1st Grade in Cawnpore 1883-1886. After retirement he lived in Clifton for 15 years before going to Hazelbush, York.
According to the Registry at Somerset House his estate at his death in 1922 amounted to Ł38,477..4s..9d
