He married Emily Jefferson Thrash November 09, 1869 in Meriwether County, Georgia, daughter of Erasmus Thrash and Martha Mann. She was born July 12, 1848 in Meriwether County, Georgia, and died February 11, 1935 in Nacogdoches, Texas.

James Turman Barron served in the 4th Georgia Infantry of the Confederate States of America.

Mr. J.T. Barron, a well-known citizen and farmer, died at his home seven miles north of Nacogdoches Sunday. Mr. Barron had only been sick for about seven days with pneumonia, and, his death was quite a shock to his family and a surprise to his friends.

He was over 61 years of age and leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his death. The remains were buried in Rocksprings Cemetery this morning.

Notes for Emily Jefferson Thrash:
Some sources claim that Emily Jefferson Thrash Barron died in 1885. This information is totally inaccurate as her youngest child was born in 1887. The 1920 census of Nacogdoches County, Texas also shows her living with her daughter, Sallie, and son-in-law, Isaac David Parmley. [ Emily was my great grandmother and she died on February 11, 1935 and is buried next to my great grandfather in the Rocksprings Cemetery in Nacogdoches County, Texas--jb] An earlier census in 1900 shows Emily Jefferson Thrash Barron living with her husband, James Turman, and their two youngest children.

Obituary of Emily Jefferson Thrash Barron:

"The Daily Sentinel", Nacogdoches, Texas, Wednesday, February 13, 1935, Page 1

Mrs. E. J. Barron, who died Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harlan Burk, in Houston, was buried Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Rocksprings Cemetery in this county.

Mrs. Barron was born in Georgia on July 12, 1848 and was married to J.T. Barron in 1868. The couple moved to Nacogdoches County in November, 1876, and, made this county their home for many years.

To this union seven children were born, all of whom are now living. They are Mrs. I.D. Parmley, Mrs. D.M. Grimes, Mrs. Harlan Burk, Mrs. Jim Campbell, Jim, John, and Joe Barron. She is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Mollie Reid, Mrs. M.A. Lord, and Ras Thrash of Overton.

Funeral under the direction of Branch-Patton Co., was conducted by Rev. A.T. Garrard. Pallbearers were Turman Barron, Willie Barron, B.T. Burk, J.T. Campbell, Troy Grimes, and, Eugene Parmley.
