I am researching my family heritage, Barranco / Geppi / Amato / Liberto family heritage.
My paternal grandfather, Vincent James BARRANCO (a.k.a. Jim) married my grandmother, the former Giuseppina AMATO, on February 5, 1907. They lived in Cefalu, Sicily, a small costal village 75 kilometers east of Palermo, Sicily. They set sail for America from port of Naples, Italy on April of 1907 on board the ship BRASILE. They arrived at Ellis Island, New York, on May 6, 1907 after spending approximately 30 days at sea. Vincent BARRANCO settled in a small town of Emlenton, Pennsylvania. He later moved his family to East Brady, Pennsylvania, approximately 60 miles north of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, when he brought a produce business from his brother-in-law, Dominic Liberto. Later my grandfather BARRANCO sold his produce business and bought a Bar & Grill in East Brady, Jim's Place. They had 10 children; Rose, Sara, Joseph, Samuel (my father), Carmeline (a.k.a. Lena), Vincent Jr., Margaret, Josephine, Mary Jane, and Angeline (a.k.a. Jean).
My great-grandfather, Giuseppe BARRANCO, came to this country when he was 61 years old to joined his son, Vincent, in Emlenton, Pennsylvania. He arrived at Ellis Island, New York, on February 25, 1911, arriving on the ship SS Athinai after departing from Patras, Greece, on February 15, 1911. Accompanying him to the "new world" was his two daughters, Carmelo BARRANCO, age 27, and Rossario BARRANCO, age 24.
My maternal grandfather, Vincenzo GEPPI, also came to America with his new bride, the former Giovannina (a.k.a. Jenny) Messina, from the same village of Cefalu. They arrived in America on board the ship Konig Albert on April 21, 1911. Both families, Barrancos & Geppis, were friends with each other in the old country. My grandfather GEPPI settle in the Baltimore, Maryland area. He also was in the produce business with his own produce stand at Lexington Market. They had four children, Rose (my mother), John, Margaret and Charles.
