Notes for MAURICE "MORRIS" J. BARRY: -Died at the age of 18 after a short illness. -Employed at Apothecary hall and later at the drug store of John J. McGreevey. -Member of the Father Mathew Society -Was a well known ball player -Funeral was held Saturday morning at 8:15 at the home at 47 Prospect Street followed by a high mass of requiem at the Church of Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament at 9 o'clock. Burial was in St. Mary's cemetery. |

Notes for ARTHUR J. BARRY JR.: -Veteran of World War I. Wounded in the ArgonneForest drive near the end of the war.He was in a majority of the big battles of the closing days of the war. "It was while he was leading a batch of men into battle in the Argonne Forest sector that a shell exploded behind him, throwing him into a shellhole and causing one of his knees to be severely wrenched. The local doughboy was in the hosptal for some time as a result of the injury and still walks a little lame." -Employed by the, M.W. Hayden (1914), was a conductor with the Street Railway (1920-1927), was a chauffeur (1934-1936) and as a checker at the Foster Machine Company. -Member of the Westfield Aerie of Eagles, American Legion Post 124, World War One Barracks 1556, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the local union of the Foster Machine Company. -Died at Leeds Hospital, Northampton, Massachusetts. This was the veterans hospital at the time. -Was last living at 11Chapel Street in Westfield. |
