Samuel Barr (son of David Barr and Mary Jane Bibler)27 was born 19 Jun 1812 in Pleasant Tws., Fairfield Co. OH, and died 20 Jul 1890 in Dumontville, Fairfield Co. OH. He married Elizabeth Friesner on 08 Mar 1835 in Pleasant Tws., Fairfield Co. OH, daughter of Henry Frienser and Barbara Koch.

BIOGRAPHY: Samuel was born in Pleasant Township probably at his parents home. His father died leaving Samuel at the age of 12 to be raised by his mother and stepfather. He lived on the family farm untill his marraige to Elizabeth Friesner in 1835. Samuel was a farmer most of his life living in Greenfield Township untill 1847 when he apperantly moved to Liberty Township living on a piece of property owned by his father in law Henry Friesner. This piece of property is located on the northwest corner of the present day intersection of State Rt. 158 and Pleasantville Rd. about three miles south of Baltimore Ohio. They remained there untill after Samuel's dicharge from the Union Army. He had been mustered in as a private At theage of 49on 24 Sep 1861 With Co I 4th Ohio Volunteer Calvery at Camp Dennison Ohio. He served three years fighting in Bowling Green, KY on 15Feb 1862; Nashville, TN on 8 Mar 1862; Huntsville, AL on 11 Apr 1862;Bridgeport, AL on 29 Apr 1862; Lexington, KY on 17 Oct 1862;Murfreesboro, TN on 1-2 Jan 1863; Lebanon, TN on 8 Feb 1863 andBradyville, TN on 1 Mar 1863. This unit bore an honorable role in many battles after this. It would appear that Samuel was wounded in the Battle of Bradyville as he was Discharged 18 Mar 1863 on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability. In 1870 Samuel and family appear in Dumontville where he would live until his death in 1890. His death was followed by his wife's death two weeks later.
