Notes for David Barr: We suspect that David was born in Chambersburg PA. By his grave marker in Applegate Cemetery in Fairfield county, we are confident that he was born around 15 Jul 1784. Moving to Ohio with his father in 1806 they settled on his fathers land grant in Pleasant Township, Fairfield Co, Ohio. David was deeded a piece of this property from his father on 10 Mar 1807. On24 Oct 1809 he was married to Mary Jane Bibler by Lewis Sitez. David was appointed Executor of his fathers estate after Josephs death in December of 1818. He was left all of his fathers carpentry and joiner tools and we know from Joseph Barr's Probate records that he did aquire most of them. It appears from the list of tools that the family trade was carpentry. It would also appear that they were finish carpenters, possibly wagon builders, wheelwrights or cabnetmakers. David maintained the 114 3/4 acres untill his death on 20 Sep1824. At his death Mary was appointed administrator on 2 Oct 1824. as with his father his personal property was inventoried and then sold at public auction. a lot of his estate was bought by neighbors John Bibler, David Bibler, William Trimble, George Raudinbaugh, Martin Lantz, brother Joseph Barr and the widow Mary. It would appear from the sale records that he was well known and well respected in Pleasant Township. His children were placed in the guardianship of Jacob Macklin untill Mary remarried to Jacob Lantz. His estate was finaly settled in 1841 by a petition for partition filed by his daughter Ann and her husband Jesse Nichols.

Pleas before the Court of Common Pleas within and for the county of Fairfield & State of Ohio on this twenty eighth day of Febuary in the year of our loard one thousand eight hundred andforty two. Be it remembered that heretofore towit: on the twenty second day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fortyone said Petitioners filed in the Clerks office of said ciurt the following Petition for Partition, towit: "To the Court of Common Pleas in and for the County of Fairfield & State of Ohio, Your Petitioner Jesse Nickols & and Ann his wife of your said County of Fairfield respectfully represent to your Honors that David Barr, Late of your said county deceased did seized and ---------- in fee simple of the following described land, towit: Part of the west half of section thirty four(34) Township fifteen (15) and Range eighteen (18) boardered as follows: Beginning at the south west corner of said half section thince east Eighty two (82) perches to a post thince north two hundred and twenty four (224) perches to a post thince west eighty two (82) perches to a post thince south two hundred twenty four (224) perches to the place of beginning containing one hundred and fourteen 3/4 acres and eight (8) perches; and that the said deceaced left the following children and heir at law towit: Ann internarried with your Petitioner Jesse Nichols, John Barr, Samuel Barr, Jacob Barr, and Sophia Barr, to whom said realestate divides and vests in - in fee simple. And said deceased also left Mary his widow entitled to dower in said estate who has since marrie one Jacob Lantz your Petitioners alson represent that three of said Heirs, towit: John, Samuel & Sophia have conveyed all their right in said premises to said Jacob Lantz of your said county and that the other heirs =, towit: Elizabeth,Jacob both of the county aforesaid and your Petitioner Ann have still a legal right to and are seized in fee simple each of one undevided sixth part of said real estate. The said Elizabeth Barr, Jacob Barr, Jacob Lantz and Mary Lantz (late Mary Barr) are therefore made Defendants to this suit for Partition - Your Petitonners therefore pray that Paartition be made of said land and the dower so said Mary Lantz late widow as aforesaid ________ therein; or if the same cannot be done without manifest injury that there such other proceedings be had as are authorized by law. unto the said Jacob Barr being a minor under the age of twenty one years may it please the court to grant him a guardian ad litem in this behalf to M A Daugherty esq for defendants.
