Courtland Barberie (son of Oliver II Barberie) was born 1830 in New Brunswick, Canada, and died July 1863 in Wandillogong, Australia.
Notes for Courtland Barberie: From the New Brunswick Genealogical Society, Issue 48 - June 1991 The Saint John-Australia Emigration. 89 passengers sailed aboard the brig "Australia", Master David Seely, from Saint John, NB to Melbourne, Australia. The ship cleared port on Aug. 7, 1852. the passenger list included: Courtland Barbarie age 22 Oliver D. Barbarie age 22 The ship arrived in Melbourne on Dec 28, 1852. Three of the families on this ship travelled on to New Zealand where they settled. They named the area in which they settled, Brunswick. Information from the New Brunswick Courier, Aug 14, 1852. In 1851 gold was discovered in the colonies of New South Wales and Victoria. There was an enormous rise in the population which rose from half a million to a million between 1851and 1860. Courtland and Oliver went to Australia looking for gold.
