Notes for Abraham Varick Barberie: A Barberie bible was in the possession of Mrs. Viola Barberie Ross, Upper Montclair, NJ in March 1985. The Holy Bible containing the old & new testaments: translated out of original tongues; and with the former translations diligently compared and revised. NY: American Bible Society, 1879. I have photo copies. It is not known why Abraham Varick Barberie traveled to Kentucky but I would quess it had something to do with the growing of hemp which was the leading crop in Kentucky in the 1800's. Abraham was a ropemaker and hemp was used in the process of making rope.
