Most of my mother`s family came to the Wilson County area of North Carolina via southeastern Virginia. Southside Virginia was where America`s first families settled. From there many went further south into the furtile lands of North Carolina, looking for a better way of life and religious freedom. The Tomlinson family was one of the original families in Wilson County when it was formed in 1855. They had settled in the 1700`s in Wayne County which part of became Wilson County. It is a good idea no matter where your ancestors came from to find out about county boundary lines. Sometimes a county will be taken in by another county. Sometimes counties will fall into different states down the line. I have seen this alot with Virginia and West Virginia.
My father`s ancestors came from a wider area than my mom`s. His mother came from New York. The Kesters came from Germany and settled in Germantown (Philadelphia) Pennsylvania. They came down to North Carolinia in the lste 1700`s. They were located in several counties including Davidson, Stokes, Forsyth and Guilford.
Lastly, I`d like to touch on my ex-husband`s family lines. He has a real interesting background which consists of Scotch-Irish, French, Cherokee and Creek Indian through the Boggs and related families and more recently I have found a hint of the elusive Melungeon ancestry that is so interesting and exciting to research. My children are real excited about that and the Indian ancestry most of all. His ancestors are mostly from Kentucky but like mine they came there via North Carolina, Virgiina and in some cases West Virginia. He has a true Appalachian background.
What I really love about all the research I have done, is finding the diversity. I cannot vouch for every piece of information that I have accumulated as being 100% accurate. That is up to individuals to research what they need to prove for themselves. I see alot of serious researchers, most of them probably alot like me, doing this as a hobby for the fun of it. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions you may have. I will be glad to help you with anything if I can. Maybe we can help each other.
