McCanns of California and County Tyrone

Updated November 6, 2003

This McCANN home page contains information about my extended McCANN family who emigrated from County Tyrone and eventually settled in California. It also contains information about other McCANN families in California and County Tyrone, encountered during my research. Any other researchers who would like to add links or information about their McCann families In California or Tyrone to this page are asked to email me.

William McCann, born December 1820 in Fallagherin, Tyrone Ireland, arrived in New York in 1847. In July 1849, he embarked on a dangerous sea voyage around the Horn in search of gold in California. He arrived in San Francisco on the Bark Chapin on a blustery January day in 1850. My search to understand this amazing, resilient and resourceful man has brought me in contact with a delightful, heart-warming, generous bunch of folks throughout the world, all of whom are McCanns. Their stories and photographs may be found on these pages.
