THE DESCENDANTS OF OWEN MCCANN

THE SEARCH for the MAGNIFICENT SEVEN

On my third visit to County Tyrone in about 1994, my new-found cousins the McCanns of Ballynahaye introduced me to some new cousins, the family of Hugh Quinn, aged 91, of Drumfadd. Hugh, his son Sean and his wife Philomena welcomed me into their home. They shared with me a notebook prepared by Hugh's late wife Mary Russell Quinn. Mary wrote about Hugh Quinn's mother's family.

This is a verbatim transcription of the notes- I have numbered the family member's for clarification, because of the repetitive use of the same names.

Indentation, indicating generation changes is mine.

My probable cousin Denise McCann Hayes and I have thoroughly researched this family in an effort to trace our own ancestral line. I knew from talking to cousins of Hugh Quinn that my great-great-grand father, William, had cousins related to Hugh's grandfather, Owen. We suspect that Denise is descended from one of Owen's seven sons. We laughingly dubbed our pursuit "The Search for the Magnificent Seven".
