Notes for Joseph Mapes:
Joseph MAPES was born about 1785 possibly in Vermont. He died sometime after 1860. He married Anna STOVER on Jan 27, 1806 in St. James Church, Toronto, Ontario. He and his family mostly stayed in the township of Markham in the Ontario County of York. To this day, there are still many MAPES in York County, Ontario which is in close proximity to Toronto. Most members of the family were farmers and carpenters.
Anna STOVER's death notice in Canadian Christian Advocates: Anna MAPES wife of Joseph MAPES died at the residence of her son, William, on the 3rd concession of Markham, Twp, Nov. 1, 1857 in her 71st year. Mrs. MAPES was the mother of 12 children. Anna is buried in Headford Church, Markham Twp., Canada

That your petitioner is a native of the United States of America is 33 years of age and has resided in this Province since year 1805. Has a wife and seven children is desirous of Cultivating Lands, having means to do so. Having taken the oath of Allegiance and never having drawn any lands humbly pray, Your excellency will grant him such portion of the same under the existing regulations as may seem meet.
