      2. Robert2 Barr (John1) was born 20 Jan 1785, and died 19 Nov 1824 in Gibson Twp, Clearfield Co., PA. He married Catherine Smith, daughter of Benjamin Smith and Mary Wilson. She was born Abt. 1790 in White Deer Valley, PA.

Robert Barr: Will --- In the name of God, I Robert Barr of Gibson Twp., Clearfield Co., in the state of PA, being and frail in bodily abilities, yet sound of mind and memory and thinking by the course of nature that my dissolution is not far distant, I do hereby make, constitute and ordain, make this my last will and testament, in manner and form following the wit: first, it is my will and do allow my body to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of Executor and as touching those worldly goods and effects wherewith it has please the Lord God of the Universe to Bless me within this life, I do will and dispose of the same as to followeth to wit: First my lawful debts be justly paid by my executor and also I do have all and singular both real and personal property with my papers in his hands to do as his attorney in the law shall direct except my household furniture and 1 cow which shall be at the discretion of my beloved wife with the sheep which shall be for the use of my family. I do likewise constitute, appoint, and ordain my worthy brother William Barr, whole and sole executor of this my last will and testament, and I do hereby make null and void all other will and testaments made be me. In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 26th day of August in the year of our Lord One thousand eight hundred and twenty four. He had a farm of 50 acres which was accessible only by horseback believed to be located on Barr Run, Gibson Twp., Clearfield Co. (now Cameron Co) Barr Run was later called Plug Hollow, now called Stone Quary Hollow.
In the book "History of Centre and Clinton Counties" by John Blair Linn, 1883 on page 648 in Noyes Twp. Chapter: " I was up on the Sinnemahoning one time in the company of Robert Barr. One Jerry Gaines who lived there had misused a sister of Barr's: he met Gaines: an altercation took place and resulted in Barr shooting Gaines in the leg. By advice of Barr's friends, he gave himself up and was taken to jail, and when the day of the trial came, Barr had hosts of friends; he was cleared without any trouble and came home rejoicing."
1814 - Robert appears on a tax list for the Sinnemahoning District, year 1814. He was at that time a taxable inhabitant of the Sinnemahoning District, Lawrence Twp, Clearfield Co, PA.
1821 - Robert appears on list of taxable inhabitants in Gibson Twp., Clearfield County 20 November 1821.
Robert and Mary are buried in Huntly Cemetery, Cameron County, PA

      5. John2 Barr (John1) was born 05 Oct 1791 in Pine Creek Twp Northumberland Co. PA, and died 17 Oct 1850. He married Ellen Moody. She was born Abt. 1794 in Pennsylvania, and died 15 May 1857.

1824 - Centre County Courthouse deed book G pg. 633 dated 1 November 1824. Grantor: James D. Harris and wife Mary Ann -- Grantee: John Barr Jr. - Indenture (in part) from James D. Harris to John Barr of Spring Twp. Centre Co., PA. In consideration for the sum of $125.00 to James D. Harris of Spring Twp. in Centre Co. has granted and sold to John Barr (Jr) a tract of land containing 11 acres 64 perches [being a part of a larger tract of land granted to James D. Harris by patent dated 5 October 1824 - enrolled in patent book H vol. 23 pg. 36] --- Deed recorded: 1 November 1824 Centre County Courthouse.
1826 - John Barr Jr. buys Cooks Run Property from his father John Barr Sr. - Lycoming Co. Deedbook Vol 18 Pg 68, John Barr Sr deeds Property in Warrant No. 1933 for consideration of 50 Pounds paid by John Barr Jr of Spring Twp Centre Co Pa. - Recorded 14 Aug 1826.
1827 - John Barr Jr. Deeds Cooks Run property to Hugh Millegan-- deed book Vol. 17 pg.358 Lycoming County Courthouse. Hugh Millegan purchases all of the property on Warrant No. 1933 from John Barr Jr. for the consideration of $400 on 2 June 1827, signed John Barr Jr. (his mark) and Ellen Barr (her mark) recorded 3 September 1827.
1832 - Centre County Courthouse deed book 1 pg. 226 dated 31 March 1832. Grantor: John Barr Jr. and wife Ellen - Grantee: William Marshall - from John Barr of Spring Twp. Centre County and Ellen his wife, in consideration for the sum of $600.00 has granted and sold the described parcel of land lying and being in Spring Twp., containing 9 acres, 118 perches - adjacent to land [being part of a larger tract of land granted to James D. Harris by patent dated 5 October 1824 enrolled in patent book H vol. 23 pg. 36] being part of the same land conveyed to John Barr Jr. 1 November 1824 Spring Co. deed book G page 633 -- entered and recorded 17 May 1832.

      7. William2 Barr (John1) was born 26 Jan 1798 in Lycoming Co. Pa, and died 28 Apr 1886 in Cameron County, PA. He married Sarah Ann Miller, daughter of John Miller. She was born 09 Mar 1800, and died 06 Mar 1875 in Cameron County PA.

William and Sally Barr owned a tract of land on both sides of the stream, Bennet's Branch, located 1.4 miles below the mouth of Hicks Run Stream.

This indenture made 31 Oct. 1850 between William Barr of the Twp. of Gibson in the County of Elk, PA and Sally his wife of the first part Anson G. Phelps of the city of New York of the second part -- in consideration of the sum of $150.00. William Barr sold a tract of land situate in the Twp. of Gibson and County of Elk on the north side of Bennet's Branch of Sinnemahoning Creek containing 52 acres and 102 perches being a part of a lot No. 5474 in the warrantee name of George Mead signed by William and Sally Barr and recorded in Elk County 1 Nov 1850.

      8. James2 Barr (John1) was born 24 Mar 1802 in Lycoming Co. Pa, and died 14 Feb 1860 in Cameron County, Pennsylvania. He married Margaret Miller. She was born 03 Apr 1802, and died 15 Jan 1865 in Cameron County, Pennsylvania.

1820 - "The first regular Smith-Shop which was built to do custom work, was about 1820, by John Baird of Cook's Run and the Caldwells of Kettle Creek, located near the river below Cook's Run and near the old Milligan Place. Samuel Conaway was about the first to work in the shop: Jacob Smith also did work in it. It was afterwards used by James Barr for a dwelling house, and lastly for a schoolhouse, which was really first in the township, and was over two miles above the mouth of Kettle Creek, being at that time near the Centre of the settlement." 1845 - Property deed - Gibson Twp., Elk Co. PA,-- 9 April 1845-- from James Barr and Margaret to Saul Barr and Jacob Barr, Indenture - 9 April 1845 between James Barr of Gibson Twp. in the County of Elk, State of Pennsylvania and Margaret his wife of the one part and Saul Barr and Jacob Barr of the same County of the other part, witnesseth that James Barr and Margaret his wife, in consideration of the sum of $500.00 lawful money paid, granted bargained and sold unto Saul Barr and Jacob Barr a parcel of land containing 66 acres and 70 perches, situate in Gibson Twp. in the County of Elk and known as part of Warrant No. 5472, being the same parcel of land which John T.Greenway by deed dated 2 March 1833 granted and conveyed to said James Barr and recorded 9 March 1833 in the County of Clearfield PA. in Deed Book D pg. 606---Signed; James Barr and Margaret Barr, recorded 19 May 1845.
1845 - Gibson Twp. Elk County - Covenant filed along with the above property deed.
Covenant and agreement of Saul and Jacob Barr with James Barr and wife. Whereas James Barr and Margaret his wife, have granted and conveyed to Saul Barr and Jacob Barr for the consideration of $500.00, a tract of land situate in Gibson Twp. Clearfield Co. 66 acres and 70 perches being the same place on which the family now resides. Now the consideration of said covenant is this. The said Saul Barr and Jacob Barr being their heirs and obliged to pay all the bills due and owing by the said James Barr at the time of signing this agreement, bonds, bills, notes or judgements or otherwise, agrees to keep in sufficient meat, food and clothing for said James Barr and Margaret Barr, their parents, during their natural lives and suffer them to reside on the said place and in the house on the said place and do for them. The said Saul Barr and Jacob Barr are to find sufficient bread and meat for the rest of the minor part of the family, for and during the space of 5 years of this date and who are to reside on the said place with their parents during said term of 5 years as above mentioned and it is at the same time expressly understood and agreed upon that the minor brothers and sisters of the said Saul and Jacob are to give their labor and industry to farm and cultivate the said place,as formally, during the said terms of 5 years provided they all remain on said place with their parents during the said term of 5 years as a forsaid it is also expressly agreed and understood and to which the parties bind themselves that when John Barr shall arrive at the age of 21 years of age, if he the said John Barr should desire or wish it he may by paying to his brothers the said Saul and Jacob Barr his proportion of the said sum of $500.00 with interest be permitted to come in as parteners with them in this the said place under the same contract and covenant as they the said Saul Barr and Jacob Barr their heirs and assigns are by this presence to support their parents James Barr and Margaret. That this covenant and contract is to be recorded with and the same time the deed of conveyance is from the said James Barr and Margaret Barr to the said Saul and Jacob Barr and to be considered a lein on said place conveyed as aforesaid. In witness whereof we have hereunder give our hands and seals this 29th day of April in the year of our Lord 1845.
Sealed and delivered in the presence of us William M. Mason and Ellis Barr --(son of William Barr) signed, Jacob I Barr.
Note: Saul and Jacob Barr were the oldest and the only adult children of James and Margaret Barr at the time of this Covenant, John would be next to reach the age of 21. There were 4 children, under 5 years of age.
1850 - US Census, Elk Co., Gibson Twp. Pa. List -James Barr age 58, Farmer---Margaret age 48---and 10 of their children living on the property adjacent to his brother William Barr, wife Sally and 9 of their children.
1860 - James Barr was buried in Miller Run Cemetery. Wife Margaret Miller was buried in 1865 in Miller Run Cemetery. The cemetery and grave site can still be found near the overgrown woods near Millers Run. The gravestone is still in excellent condition.
1863 - Margaret Miller is listed in the 1863 PA Septennial Census of Gibsen Twp. Camerion Co. PA as Margarett Barr Age 61.
