Notes for THOMAS JEFFERSON MOSER:
Cecil Binford writes that Jefferson Moser ("Little Grandpa") was a short, fat Dutchman who owned a big plantation with a lot of slaves. The Civil War destroyed him. He divided his plantation among his children and came to live with his daughter, Mary Elizabeth. He brought with him two of his slaves who were not able to provide for themselves after the slaves were freed. One was "Aunt Martha" who was too old and half blind. The other was a young boy of 10 or 11 years old. His parents abandoned him and went to Chicago with other slaves after the war. So Grannie and Grandpa took care of them until Martha died and the boy grew up. He later moved to Chicago. He returned for a visit (and Cecil saw him). He was very musical and played in a band. He came to thank Grannie for taking care of him all those years. Aunt Bessie (Loraine's mother) gave him her mandolin, and he played it for them.
Cecil Binford wrote: "I don't know how many brothers and sisters Grannie (Mary Elizabeth Moser) had."
"One of Grannie's brothers went to the Gold Rush in California in 1849 and was never heard from again. Another little rother was killed, when just a little child, during the Civil War. Another brother, Audis (or Andis) was killed by a train when he was 98 years old. He was driving his car on the way to do jury duty."
"Barbara Ellen...married to Dr. Henson and had one son, Aubrey. My mother was named for her and when she was a young lady spent a year in Little Rock with Barbara Ellen and her family. I am sure she had more than one sister because Sam Jones married one of them but I don't remember her name."
"I know Mark Twain (Clement family) are related someway and I know the Haynes family is related someway, but I don't know exactly how. I remember Mamma's cousin, Sue Haynes, coming to visit us when I was little. I remember Grannie mentioning two cousins, Miss Kath Bumpass and her sister...they lived to be 102 and 103 years old."

Marriage Notes for MARIAH RICHARDSON and THOMAS MOSER:
Some details about the children of Lucinda Richardson and Jefferson Moser were found in the outline of Jim Sawyer at Family Treemaker's user site on the Internet July 1999.
The last two children come from notes of Cecil Binford, and may be actually other of the children already listed. I did not want to "lose" them, so entered them as separate children until enough information is found to properly identify them.
Children of MARIAH RICHARDSON and THOMAS MOSER are:
i. | BARBARA ANN3 MOSER, b. 01 December 1844, Tishomingo Co, MS; d. Bef. 1887; m. .. HENSON, Unknown; b. Bet. 1835 - 1850, (a physician) b. Arkansas; d. Unknown. |
Notes for .. HENSON: The Hensons lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Birdie Ellen Richardson told her daughter Cecil about visiting her aunt and her family. She spent a year there, and when she returned, her sister, Lucy, went to Little Rock for a year. Vickie Clarke has sent census and other records showing that the Henson marriage is to Ellen Mariah, but which does not rule out an earlier marriage to Barbara Ann. The US Census of 1930, which shows Ellen M. as head of household, a widow, living with sone Aubrey E., age 43. 1930 US Census Crawford County, AR Alma Township, District 1, 2 April Page 1A (page 1) HH#7/7 Henson, Ellen M., head $1000, 73, widow, MS/TN/MS, none Aubrey E., son, 43, single, AR/MS/MS, laborer, garden. This seems to make it likely that Aubrey is the son of Ellen instead of Barbara Ann, because Barbara would be over 40 years old at the birth. Whether Cecil Binford was confused about which sister Dr. Henson married remains to be seen. |
