Helen Erdean suffered from scarlet fever as a child, which left her lungs scarred. She was the first "Miss Carnegie" and graduated from Carnegie High School in Carnegie, Oklahoma. She served as president of the Pharmaceutical Wives' Auxilliary in Midland, Texas. She loved antiques and was a devoted mother to her children.

Helen Erdean died of pneumonia, COPD, and malnutrition.
