Notes for C
HARLES HENRY GROUNDS:
In August 2006, Elwood Len ("Len") Doughty II wrote and provided a lot of updated information on Charles Henry and his descendants. This included correcting the name from Henry C. to Charles Henry Grounds.

Len relates that Charles and Nobel met in Nursing school in Boulder, Colorado, and were married there in 1923. They lived in Battle Creek, Michigan, California, and South Carolina, but eventually bought a 120-acre farm west of Diamond, Missouri, in 1946. This is where Len grea up. Henry was one of the first Registered Nurses in the state of Missouri. He cared from some prominent men as a private-duty nurse, as well as worked as an industrial nurse at a Dupont plant in Carl Junction, Missouri, where explosives were made.

He taught First Aid classes for the Red Cross in Joplin, using Len for his "demonstration dummy" to to illustrate wrapping bandages. He died in 1966 from cancer. He had received an injury to his left shin that did not heal, despite surgeries and skin grafts. His leg eventually had to be amputated above the knee. He did well with that, although he continued to be sick off and on until he died.

Notes for N
OBEL LARUE HARRELL:
We previously listed the surname of Nobel as Porter, but Len Doughty says that is an error.

Nobel was raised in Hot Springs, Arkansas. She worked as a nurse there during World War II, teaching disaster preparedness. She died at her daughter's home in Bonnerdale, Arkansas in 1988, from complications of Parkinson's disease.
