Descendants of Thomas BOYLSTON, Jr.

72. MARY ANN7 BOYDSTUN (JOHN B.6, JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 31 Dec 1813 in Warren Co, KY, and died Dec 1891 in Prob TX. She married ISAAC BUTLER 08 Oct 1854 in Warren Co, IL, son of WILLIAM BUTLER and EUSTACIA GRAY. He was born Abt. 1802 in Virginia, and died 29 Oct 1868 in (twin of John) ae 66 yrs; Warren Co, IL.

Mary Ann went to Rockwall County, Texas, to live with her brother, Benjamin, when her husband died. She brought their son, James Berry Butler, with her, as well as a step daughter, Mary Butler. It is not known which of the other two wives is the mother of Mary.

Notes for I
SAAC BUTLER:
Joe Winsell gives marriage information of 8 Oct 1854, to Mary Ann Boydstun, daughter of John B. and Nancy (Gardner) Boydstun without saying who the parents are of Isaac Butler.

While it seemed a good guess that it's this particular Isaac Butler as the families migrated together and intermarried, other sources say Isaac married Margaret Smith and still others say Sarah Webb. The Butler-Davidson Cemetery near Monmouth, Oregon, shows a burial for an Isaac Butler and Margaret Smith Butler. This now appears to be a different Isaac, and probably the son of Peter Butler. Jacqui McMahan (whose mother remembers James Berry Butler, the son of Isaac and Mary Ann Boydstun, says that Isaac is buried at the Greenbush Cemetery in Greenbush, Warren County, Illinois. Her information is that this Isaac is definitely not the child of Peter Butler.

MARY ANN BOYDSTUN, b. 31 Dec 1813, Warren Co, KY; d. Dec1891Unknown; m. ISAAC BUTLER, 08 Oct 1854; b. Abt. 1810; d. Unknown. October 9, 1868
Notes for ISAAC BUTLER:
Joe Winsell gives marriage information of 8 Oct 1854, to Mary Ann Boydstun, daughter of John B. and Nancy (Gardner) Boydstun without saying who the parents are of Isaac Butler. Isaac's parents are: William Henry Butler and Eustacia (Tacy)(Jane) Gray. Isaac is a twin to Col John Butler of ILL. The marriage date Joe has is correct.

While it's a good guess that it's this particular Isaac Butler as the families migrated together and intermarried, (brothers of one family married sisters of another- sometimes- I did find one that married his sister-in-law after the death of his wife) other sources say Isaac married Margaret Smith and still others say Sarah Webb. The Butler-Davidson Cemetery near Monmouth, Oregon, shows a burial for Isaac and Margaret Smith Butler:

Isaac had 2 wives. #1 was Elizabeth Robinson, mother of all his children, but one son. That child, James Berry Thomas Butler, was born to wife #2 Mary Ann Boydstun, who Isaac married after Elizabeth died.. Isaac died in Warren County, ILL 1868. He is buried in the Greenbush Graveyard, Warren Co. Ill. (James Berry Butler was born in Greenbush in 1856). Isaac NEVER went to Oregon and never had any other wives than these two. I battled a long time to show the Oregon folks that the Isaac they have is not the Isaac married to our Mary Ann Boydstun. James Berry Butler is my GGF.

Sources (Jacqui):
* I have the death certificate for James Berry Butler.
* I have the photos of Isaac and some of his other children and first wife Elizabeth's graves in Greenbush.
(Isaac and two of his sons died close together at the same time)
* We have the Family genealogy papers that James Berry Butler wrote of his family history. Certainly he'd know about his parents! James Berry's mother, Mary Ann went, along with James Berry, to Texas early 1870's to where her brother Benjamin F. lived in Rockwall.
Somewhere along the line, I believe one of Isaac's brothers had a son Isaac and when that researcher found our Isaac and Mary Ann they figured that was the one they look for.
* I have also the marriage certificates for both marriages.
* 1850 Ill. census
* 1860 Ill. census
* 1870 Ill. census
* grandchildren of James Berry Butler (one being my mother)

The Hamersley Library (OR) website says that an Isaac Butler married Sarah Webb and became sheriff of Polk County, Oregon. It also shows this notation: Donation Land Claim T9S R5W secs 5,4,8,9 . This may be the same Isaac who is son of Peter Butler.

An Isaac M. Butler, aged 83 years, 5 months, and 5 days, died 13 May 1913 in Los Angeles, California. His death is recorded there on certificate #957. This is probably related to the Oregon Butler family, and not the Isaac who married Mary Ann Boydstun.

Jacqui refers to a first wife, named Elizabeth, who, together with Isaac had 11 children. She died about a year before Isaac married Mary Ann Boydstun. One of these children was Mary Butler, who accompanied Mary Ann Boydstun Butler to Rockwall County, Texas shortly before she died. Mary Butler was 34 years old in 1874.

ARGARET JANE HENDRICKS:
Samantha Boydstun in her FTM tree gives parents of Margaret Jane Hendricks as Yhomas Henricks and Poly Burk, which is assumed to be a typo indicating Thomas and Polly.

Margaret moved 1884 to Arcadia KS to be with family.

On the 1900 US Census, she was living with son William Francis Boydstun and his family, age 60 years.
