Notes for J
AMES WASHINGTON BOYDSTUN:
James W. Boydstun was a Primitive Baptist Minister.

In 1850, he is found living near his other nearly-adult siblings in Red River Township, White County, Arkansas:

      Sarah      30F            b. AL

Boydstun, James Knox Polk Aug 1877 -

Probate Records of Butte County, California: Will filed 21 Oct 1872 #494, names James Knox Polk Boydstun as his son.

David Smith lists another son: Joseph LaFayette Boydstun b. 12 Jun 1843 in Arkansas, but this leaves only 8 months until the birth of Ardenia Angelia (23 Feb 1844), and does not seem likely. I have asked his source on this child. Since we seem to have this family fairly well documented, it was a surprise to see the additional child. After checking this one out a bit, I found that notes at James LaFayette Boydstun show that he was the son of Benjamin Andrew Jackson Boydstun. When his mother died, and his father remarried, he ran away and was adopted by his uncle, James Washington Boydstun.

Notes for D
AVID CARROLL BOYDSTUN:
David Carroll Boydstun was born in Tennessee, moved to Missouri about 1830 and to Arkansas about 1836.

At some point during 1997 or 1998, a researcher sent me a GedCom file on the descendants of David Carroll Bodyston. Unfortunately, the file has nothing to attribute it to its author, and regretably, I have forgotten who sent it, having put off working with it for several months. Much data on David Carroll Boydston and his descendants is included in the file. This source give David C. Boydstun's date of birth as 15 February.

An identifying attribute to the file is that many of the sources are numbered and much data is listed in the "fact" lines rather than in the text notes. Sources are numbered in four-digit numbers, such as "3395" and are all listed as "Fact 13." This information may help identify the contributor at a future time.

Edward Hudson of Springdale, Arkansas, sent a great deal of information on this line in 1998.

An article in Goodspeed's History of Northwest Arkansas on David M. Boydstun, also gives a birth date of 15 Feb 1813.

Note that in Goodspeed, the name is spelled with a "U" instead of an "O" as some descendants have spelled it.

David C. Boydstun and Caroline Choate had 12 children, four of whom were still living at the time the Goodspeed history was written -- Mrs. Martha Cecil, Mrs. Rachel M. Whettley, Mrs. Nancy Suggs, and David M. Boydstun.

Assorted Madison County, Arkansas Federal Land Management Records include the following homestead and cash entry patents:

Boydston, David C. - Section 5, Township 16N, Range 24W
      40 acres             1 Sep 1849
      40 acres             15 Nov 1854

"After the War, John and Rachel joined his father in Bell Co., Texas and their second child, Sarah, was born there on 25 July, 1866. On September 30, 1866, John's father, Rev. In his letter he mentions that John and Rachel were there with their children. John had built their home near Sparta, Texas.

John Richard Whiteley died in his home in Bell county on 12 May, 1905 and was buried in the Liberty Hill Cemetery, but later his body was removed to the Resthaven Cemetery in Belton, Bell co., TX. where he rests beside his beloved wife, Rachel Mahaley (Boydston) Whiteley, who joined him in death on 8 July, 1915."   Notes for DAVID M. BOYDSTUN:
David M. Bodyston was a merchant and postmaster at Suggs, King's River Township, Madison County, Arkansas. He was also a farmer.

He was born at Suggs 15 Aug 1855 to David C. and Caroline C. Chote Boydstun, who were among the very first settlers of the county. They were members of the Baptist Church for many years, and David C. Boydstun was a Democrat in politics.

David M. Boydstun lived with his parents with his wife and children, farming until 1881, when he began merchandising at Marble, Arkansas. He was a partner of Jacob Owens for a short time, until Owens died 4 months after the partnership began. David then formed a partnership with E. A. Walls and sold goods the remainder of the year.

At that time he dissolved the partnership and began his own store with annual sales of $8,000 to $10,000. He was responsible for the post office being established at Suggs.

David M. Boydstun was a member of the Free Will Baptist Church, IOOF at Marble, and was Noble Grand, and a Democrat in political views.

(Goodspeed's History of Northwest Arkansas -- written about 1886?? i.e. 5 children born before article)

(I am not sure which child "Ellar M." might be -- It could be Minerva.)

Assorted Madison County, Arkansas Federal Land Management Records include the following homestead and cash entry patents:

Boydston, David M. - Section 5, Township 16N, Range 24W, 53.49 acres 15 Dec 1882

  Notes for MINERVA E. WILKERSON:
I had 6 April 1860, but Goodspeed's biography has 13 April 1860.
