Descendants of Thomas BOYLSTON, Jr.

161. WILLIAM ALVIS8 BOYDSTUN, JR. (WILLIAM ALVIS7, JAMES6, JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 1824 in Hardeman Co, TN, and died 1857 in Racine, Newton Co, MO. He married (1) MARGARET BURKHART 1853 in Racine, Newton Co, MO. She was born Abt. 1839 in Indiana, and died Unknown. He married (2) MARY .. Unknown. She was born Unknown.

Notes for W
ILLIAM ALVIS BOYDSTUN, JR.:
The 1850 Prairie County, Arkansas Census referred to by Gladys Domonoske, lists William Boydstun age 3 and born in Arkansas. It is felt that the census refers to the son of William Alvis and wife, Mary. This son, William may have died young, thus a William Alvis (III) born to the second wife.

Child of W
ILLIAM BOYDSTUN and MARGARET BURKHART is:
  i.   WILLIAM ALVIS9 BOYDSTUN III, b. 1854, Racine, Newton Co, MO; d. 1930, Neosho, Newton Co, MO; m. EDNA FRANCES GILSTRAP, Unknown; b. Unknown, (or Frances Edna?); d. Aft. 1930.
Notes for WILLIAM ALVIS BOYDSTUN III:
William Alvis Boydstun (III) is described as being a small man, black curly hair, blue eyes

William Alvis Boydstun's will was proved in Newton County, Missouri 13 Nov 1930.

Child of WILLIAM BOYDSTUN and MARY .. is:
  ii.   WILLIAM9 BOYDSTUN, b. Abt. 1847; d. Unknown.

162. ROBERT8 BOYDSTUN (WILLIAM ALVIS7, JAMES6, JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born 18 Jan 1826 in Hardeman Co, TN (or born June?), and died 20 Nov 1887 in Branch, Franklin Co, AR. He married RACHEL IZZABELL AVERY 16 Aug 1846 in Pulaski Co, AR. She was born 03 Dec 1826 in Alabama, and died 18 Jun 1901 in Franklin Co, AR.

Notes for R
OBERT BOYDSTUN:
Clarification and correction on this Robert Boydstun comes from Chuck Boydstun (boydstun@mindspring.com). This is his line, and he has done a tremendous amount of research and cites death, land and marriage records, census records, and grave stones as proof. Excerpts of his e-mail follows:

Regarding the two Robert Boydstun/ons:

One was the son of Robert W. Bodyston, the other the son of William Alvis Boydston. Both married a woman named Rachel.

I believe that Robert W. married Rachel Jett and Robert (b 1826) married Rachel Avery (probably the sister of Sarah Ann Avery who married James W. Boydstun).

I have a photocopy of the marriage license/certificate of Robert & Rachel Avery dated 16 Aug 1846 in Pulaski County, AR. I also have land patent documents for his Robert's land near Branch/Charleston area of Arkansas. Census records show the names you have listed (after Mary) as belonging to Robert (b 1826).

Note: he refers to children I had listed at the "other" Robert, now corrected.\\

Robert Boydstun was the Postmaster at Game Hill near Branch from 1860 through 1868. The "R.D. Boydstun" who was a minister in this area has been confused with Robert Boydstun, but is actually Randolph Depriest Boydstun. He was Robert's uncle and officiated at the marriage of some of Robert's children.

(Chuck added in January 1999 that he had received a photocopy of a document of ordainment of Robert (b. 1826) that was signed by Aca Boydstun, his brother. He also received an archives document that showed that Robert (b. 1826) was indeed the postmaster of Game Hill, Arkansas from 1860 through 1874.)

(Chuck adds in January 2000 that he had received the following: "October 18, 1998--received information on tombstone inscription from Paul H. Barclift: Rachel w/o Robert Boydstun Dec 3, 1826-Jun 18 1901 -- 'We could not wish her back again, but may our mother with God remain. We'll try to gain that peaceful shore, where those who meet shall part no more.' (nee Avery)." The inscription of the "nee Avery verifies family records of her maiden name.)

(Chuck has) visited the gravesites (at Cole's Chapel Cemetery near Branch & Six-Mile Creek) for Robert and Rachel Avery Boydstun. Rachel died in 1901 and is buried alongside Robert (b 1826) as inscribed on their tombstones. Also, two daughters and their spouses/children are buried a couple of steps behind and to either side of them -- Synthia Ann Thomas and Catherine Clem.

Robert Boydstun (b. 1826) had a land patent near the Branch/Charleston area of Arkansas. A Boydston School House was located there at one time, and also the present-day Boydston Cemetery. Some or all of the land was sold to Mason and Catherine Clem and to F.M. Boydstun.

Chuck Boydstun has death certificates for Francis Marion and William D. that indicate that their parents are Robert and Rachel (Avery) Boydston.

He also has census records for 1860, 1870, 1880 showing the children that are listed in a family Bible owned by Harm Wesley Boydstun, deceased.

He originally believed Mary was the daughter of William Delafayette Boydstun, who lived next door to Robert (b 1886), and has land patent records for both Robert and William.

Although Chuck originally assigned Francis, Catherine and Mary as children of Robert (b. 1825), I have not done so for all the reasons listed above. It may be later shown that 1825 Robert has children of the same name as his cousin.

Notes for R
ACHEL IZZABELL AVERY:
I previously had January as death month, but Chuck Boydstun writes in January 2000 and gives the precise dates and tombstone inscription. They are recorded in the notes for Robert Boydstun, the husband. The inscription also confirms Rachel's maiden name as Avery.

Children of R
OBERT BOYDSTUN and RACHEL AVERY are:
  i.   CATHERINE9 BOYDSTUN, b. 01 Oct 1848, Franklin Co, AR; d. 10 Feb 1917, Franklin Co, AR; m. MASON DEW CLEM, 19 Apr 1869, Franklin Co, AR; b. Unknown, CSA; d. Unknown.
  Notes for CATHERINE BOYDSTUN:
Catherine, in later life, became "indigent" and filed a pension claim on her husband's Civil War service.

Chuck Boydstun (cbab@jps.net) tells this story related to him by a Clem descendant regarding the meeting of Catherine Boydstun and Mason Clem:

"It seems that the Boydstuns were running from the bushwhackers and the Clems hid the family and Catherine met Mason. Furthermore, he (the descendant) stated the bushwhackers caught "old man Boydstun" and hung him. I have no idea who "Old Man Boydstun" was.

ii.   MARY BOYDSTUN, b. 1850, Arkansas; d. Unknown.
iii.   FRANCIS MARION BOYDSTUN, b. 04 Oct 1856, Missouri; d. 20 Sep 1928, res near Branch, AR d. Hastings, Jefferson Co, OK; m. GENETTE ELIZABETH HUNTER, 24 Oct 1878, Franklin Co, AR; b. Unknown; d. Unknown.
  Notes for FRANCIS MARION BOYDSTUN:
Regarding the birth date of Francis Marion Boydstun, his descendant, Chuck Boydstun (cbab@jps.net) says that some records have 1856 as the birth year for F.M. Boydstun. He believes that F.M. may have been born in Missouri in 1846 to avoid the embarassment of an "early" child to this couple.

The 1860 Census of Franklin County show that he was born in about 1856 in Arkansas, while Mrs. Domonoske cites "record from Serena Boydstun Whiteley's familiy" showing Francis born 1846 in Missouri. I am inclined to accept the record of the US Census, but will enter the date finally accepted by Chuck Boydstun in his GedCom file received in July 1998.

  iv.   L. E. BOYDSTUN, b. 1858; d. Bef. 1870.

  Notes for WILLIAM DAYTON BOYDSTUN:
Although Gladys Domonoske says William D.'s middle name is "Depriest," Chuck Boydstun (cbab@jps.net) has a copy of his death certificate which indicates the middle name is "Dayton."

vii.   SYNTHIA ANN BOYDSTUN, b. 03 Mar 1868, Arkansas; d. 10 Feb 1936, Franklin Co, AR; bd Cole's Chapel Cemetery, Franklin Co, AR; m. JESS THOMAS, 10 Dec 1885, Franklin Co, AR; b. Unknown.
viii.   WILLIAM RANDOLPH BOYDSTUN, b. 1870, Arkansas; d. Unknown.
ix.   SARAH T. BOYDSTUN, b. 1872, Franklin Co, AR; d. 17 Feb 1899, bd Hunter's Cemetery near Branch, AR; m. WILLIAM HARDIN BURT, 20 Feb 1889, Franklin Co, AR; b. Unknown; d. Unknown.
  Notes for SARAH T. BOYDSTUN:
According to Chuck Boydstun, Sarah Boydstun Burt died in childbirth, and that Wallace was the name of the child born when she died. This does not match previous dates, but had she died as a result of complications, it would fit.

He also supplies the names of children other than Wallace: Bill, Emma, and Harley.

  Notes for WILLIAM HARDIN BURT:
Originally had W. H. Burt, but full name supplied by Chuck Boydstun (cbab@jps.net). He also supplies the names of W. H. Burt's parents.

163. ASA8 BOYDSTUN (WILLIAM ALVIS7, JAMES6, JAMES5, DAVID4 BOYDSTON, WILLIAM3 BOYLSTON, THOMAS2, THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1835 in Crawford Co, MO, and died 05 Sep 1883 in Springdale, Washington Co, AR.
