Notes for M
ATILDA BOYDSTUN:
There is an obituary for Matilda Edmundson dated 11 Dec (no year) which states:

"The remains of Mrs. Matilda Edmundson passed through here last Friday en route from Altona to St. Augustine, where the funeral services were held in the afternoon. Mrs. Edmundson was a sister to W. A. Boydstun, of this city, and was the wife of Bry Edmundson, a well-known farmer, who previous to his death, which occurred fourteen years ago, lived near St. Augustine. Mrs. Edmundson was born in Warren county, Ky., and moved to Woodford county, Ill., in 1829. She thus resided in this state 66 years. The funeral was very largely attended, the services being conducted by Elder Branch."

Chuck Boydstun supplies the date of 3 Apr 1895 and says Matilda died in Knox County, Illinois.

Notes for B
RYSON EDMONDSON:
Carol (Lee) Smith (cls144@mindspring.com) wrote in November 2002. She is a descendant of William Edmundson and Amy South. Carol wonders if this Bryson Edmondson is any relation to William. She notes that Bryson married a first time to Eleanor Elliott. She has seen a tombstone, but does not give the location of the cemetery.

Obituary of Mary Boydstun Killiam (misspellings left as found):

In Memoriam

Another faithful christian has gone to her reward. On the 18th of september A.D. 1883, sister Mary Killiam exchanged this for a better and a brighter world. The deceased was born in the year 1822 she was 61 years old at the time of her death. She was married to Mr. John Killiam, one of our most honorable and respected citizens 43 years ago; and with him lived a happy life. The family are well and favorably known in this community, where they have resided during the last 47 years. During these long years they have merited and received the esteem of all their neighbors. Sister Killiam has been a member of the christian church for 45 years, during which time she has honored her professeon by a pios walk. Her christian life has been simple, pur, and beautiful. She was noted for her kindness cheerfulness and her devotion to her family. She leaves a husband to mourn her loss. Her son Wm. Killiam is well known and much respected in this community. He was greatly devotud to his mother and feels her loss most keenly. Her daughter Mrs. E. B. Hardy, is a most estimable christian lady, the wife of one of our businessmen in Abingdon. It is a great trial to be compelled to give up a dear mother, but Mrs. Hardy bears up under the loss with christian fortitude. The devoted husband has the sympathy of the entire community. There was an unusialy large attendance at the funeral excercises conducted at the Christian Church in Abingdon. The writer preached the funeral discourse from the text "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforeth; yea saith the Spirit, they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." Rev. 14:13. Wm. Boydstun, a brother of the deceased, who resides in Galesburg was present with his family at the funeral services. Also, Mrs. B. Edmundson a sister who resides at St. Augustine besides other relatives. Thomas Boydstun a brother was not able to be at the funeral, but was at the grave. In the language of brother McLure, when taking his last look at the pale features of the departed, "Let us all so live as to meet her in that brighter and better world."

OHN KILLIAM:
Obituary of John Killiam:

A Pioneer at Rest
An Old Settler Joines the Colony of The Great Beyond
Death of John Killiam, a Resident of Indian Point Township for Sixty Years-Sketch of a Useful Life of Eighty Years

Another old settler has joined the colony on the other and better side. John Killiam, a resident of this vicinity for sixty years, passed peacefully away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E. B. Hardy, on Monday, Aug. 9. Mr. Killiam had been quite feeble for many years, but his last illness confined him to the house but a few weeks. John Killiam was born in the state of Kentucky in the year of 1813. He came to Illinois and settled in Taxewell county in 1830, where he lived until 1834, when he came to Knox county. In 1836 he settled on the old homestead in Indian Point township, a few miles southwest of Abingdon, where he lived until the death of his wife fourteen years ago. After this he came to Abingdon, where he has since made his home and where he had all the care which daughterly love could bestow. Mr. Killiam was married in 1839 to Miss Mary Boydstun. Three children were born of this union -- one son and two daughters, only one of whom, Mrs. E. B. Hardy, survives to mourn the loss of a most affectionate father. Of late years he was a great sufferer, but bore his trials patiently and uncomplainingly. The memory of his early days will be cherished by the remaining old settlers with whom he was once associated. He was a kind and generous father, a sympathetic neighbor and a man of honor and integrity in all his life's dealings. The funeral was held at the house Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. William Woolley of Bushnell, assisted by Mr. Kindred. Music was rendered by a choir composed of Messrs. S. C. Mosser and Clair Baymiller and Misses Richardson and Baymiller. The interment was in Abingdon cemetery, the pall bearers being Thos. Austin, John Mosser, C. B. Edmonson, J.W. Stephens, Jefferson Bellwood and John Courson. The relatives present from abroad were Ranson Meek of Mortin, Ill., John McClure of Gibson, and Wm. Boydstun and family, of Galesburg.

The tombstone for John Killiam and Mary Boydstun Killiam is constructed of white marble and in March 1984, was found at Abingdon City Cemetery, to be in very good condition. All engravings were clearly legible. From a photo, it is suspected that a top ornament may be on the ground next to the stone, a four-sided obelisk on a base of concrete or similar material.

Notes for J
AMES D. BOYDSTUN:
Note that the marriage listed 11 Mar 1847 to Mary Jane Jones, although all census records list wife as Nancy J. The marriage to Nancy J., if a second one, would have come immediately after the supposed death of Mary Jane, in the first year or so of marriage. It is most logical to assume that there is only one marriage and that one of the names is a nickname.
