  Notes for NORTON PAYNE BOYDSTON:
Information from Mildred Lober through Ruth Walton: "Pa owned 1400 acres, 2 sections in Texas" (640 acres or 1 square mile is a section) near Plainview, Texas, in the Panhandle. He paid $15.00 an acre around 1908 or 1909. "Uncle Wyatt looked after this land until his death, then Uncle Garland took care of it until they no longer owned it."

Ruth photographed the Lober family Bible in May 1997 and many of the details of this family come from that source.

It is possible that this Norton is the same person as Norman Boydston who is brother to Gerald W. Boydston (1922-2001), which would make him a child of "Rufus and Mary Boydston."

Notes for J
ACOB FAUBION BOYDSTON:
1870 Census - Platte County, MO, p. 224, Fam. #224
Jacob F. Boidston, farmer age 33 b. MO
Sarah A. age 28 born IN
      Ellis L. age 11 b. KS
      Angeline age 9 b. KS
      Marget A. age 6 b. MO
      Frances age 2 b. MO
      Nancy J. Shepherd age 20 b. IL (prob a sister of Sarah's)

The 1880 Census of Platte County shows the following:

Jacob Boydston 42M b. MO
Maggie 37F b. Ind.
Levi 20M b. Ks      (Ellis Levi)
Sarah 15F b. Ks      (Sarah Angeline)
Julia 11 F b. Mo      (Julia Frances/Frances/Julia)
Jane 9 F b. Mo      (Berthemia Jane)
Emma 7 F b. Mo      (Lou Emma)
Ella 4F b. Mo      (Rose Ella)
Martha 1F b. Mo      (Martha Adelia)

This would seem to indicate that Jacob married a second time and that some of the children above are probably those of Maggie. Unless of course, Maggie is the same person as Sarah Ann.

Steve Verden gives a total of 11 children for Jacob Boydston and Sarah Shepherd:
Ellis Levi - 1859
Dinah Angeline - 1861
Nathaniel Washington (died young) 1863
Margaret Ann - 1865
Frances Julia - 1868
Berthemia Jane 1870
Lou Emma - 1871
Jacob Faubion - 1875
Rose Ella Pearl - 1877
Martha Adelia (died young) - 1879
Minnie Lee - 1882

So, from the two census records and the Verden information:

1870                  1880                  Verden

Ellis L. age 11 b. KS      Levi 20M b. Ks            Ellis Levi
Angeline age 9 b. KS      Sarah 15F b. Ks            Dinah Angeline
---                  ---                  Nathaniel W.
Marget A. age 6 b. MO      --                  Margaret Ann
Frances age 2 b. MO      Julia 11F b. Mo            Frances Julia
---                  Jane 9 F b. Mo            Berthemia Jane
---                  Emma 7F b. Mo            Lou Emma
---                  ---                  Jacob Faubion
---                  Ella 4F b. MO            Rose Ella
---                  Martha 1F b. Mo            Martha Adelia
---                  ---                  Minnie Lee

Because of the incredible amount of detail present in Steve Verden's information, I have decided to accept the children as he presents them, seeing no major conflicts, except perhaps Sarah/Dinah, which could be a misreading of the census. The problem of Sarah Ann/Maggie remains unresolved.
