2. IGNATIUS ROGER2 BROOKE (JOSEPH ** ROGER1) was born October 04, 1819 in Wilkes Co., Georgia, and died January 01, 1882 in Butler, Freestone Co., TX. He married GEORGIA ANN GREEN Abt. 1847 in Lauderdale Co., Mississippi, daughter of UNKNOWN GREEN and SARAH UNKNOWN.

GNATIUS ROGER BROOKE:
Ignatius Roger BROOKE was born October 04, 1819 in Wilkes Co., Georgia. He married Georgia Anna GREEN about 1847 in Lauderdale Co., Mississippi.
Ignatius received a land patent in Kemper Co., MS dated March 15, 1854 and located in Section 34, Township 9N, and Range 15E, consisting of 160.12 acres. Apparently he left Mississippi shortly thereafter and was living out-of-state at the time of his father's death in 1856.
He established a claim in Freestone Co., TX where he developed a plantation with slaves that he brought with him from Mississippi. He moved to Coleman Co., TX with his son, Joseph Green Brooke, in 1879. He returned to Freestone Co., TX sometime before Joseph G. died and is buried in the Brooke Cemetery outside of Teague in Freestone Co..
I. R. is found in Freestone Co. for the first time on the county tax rolls beginning in 1856 where it shows he bought a tract of land, 320 acres, from William Blythe, valued at $500.00. He also owned 4 negroes valued at $2500.00, 3 horses valued at $300.00, 24 head of cattle valued at $200.00, and misc. property valued at $300.00. The total value of his property was $3500.00. He paid $6.40 in taxes.
By 1857, I. R. had acquired 200 acres more from Thomas Caine valued at $600.00 and the value for the original 320 acres had increased to $600.00. He owned 2 negroes valued at $1300.00, 6 horses at $300.00, 122 head of cattle at $770.00, and misc. property at $500.00. Total value of his property was $3820.00 and total taxes paid was $9.35.
In 1858, he still owned the same amount of land, 1 negro valued at $1200.00, 9 horses at $700.00, 200 head of cattle at $1200.00, and misc. property at $250.00. Total value of his property was $4551.00 and total taxes paid was $12.89.
In 1859, the land is the same, 1 negro at $1200.00, 10 horses at $850.00, 250 head of cattle at $1500.00 and misc. property at $250.00. Total value of his property was $3000.00 and total taxes paid was $11.83.
In 1860, the land is the same, 1 negro at $1500.00, 10 horses at $800.00, 250 head of cattle at $2050.00 and misc. property at $250.00. Total value of his property was $5800.00 and total taxes paid was $13.39.
Census taken for Freestone Co., TX, Fairfield Community, family #597, the 22 day of Sept. 1860 shows that I. R. was a farmer, was 40 years of age, born in Georgia and was married. Living in the home with I. R. were his wife, Georgia, and children, Joseph G., Sophia, and Roger L..
Enumerated in the home next to I. R. and family was his Mother-in-Law, Sarah ? GREEN and her children counted as family #598 in Fairfield.
In 1861, I. R. continued to own the same 320 acres bought from Wm. Blythe and the 200 acres bought from Tho. Caine. Both tracts of land was valued at $600.00 each yet were not listed as being in town. There was 1 negro at $1200.00, 10 horses at $800.00, 300 head of cattle at $2160.00 and misc. property at $750.00. The total value of his property was $6620.00 and total taxes paid was $16.79.
In 1862, the land is the same, 1 negro at $1000.00, 14 horses at $900.00, 400 head of cattle at $2600.00 and misc. property at $750.00. Total value of his property was $6450.00 and total taxes paid was $35.22.
In 1863, the land is the same, 1 negro at $1500.00, 16 horses at $900.00, 3 horses at $360.00, 550 head of cattle at $3300.00, 15 head of cattle at $205.00 and misc property at $1750.00. Total value of his property was $9317.00 and total taxes paid was $139.66.
In 1864 the land is the same, 1 negro at $1600.00, horses and cattle were valued together at $7500.00. The total value of his property was $10,300.00 and total taxes paid was $170.37.
*** At this time nothing has been found for the years of 1865, 1866, 1867, 1868, and 1870. Research continues!***
In 1869, I. R. owned 320 acres valued at $640.00 and 200 acres valued at $400.00. Slavery had been abolished by this time so there were no negroes owned. There were 16 horses valued at $700.00, 500 head of cattle vauled at $1500.00 and misc property valued at $240.00. Total value of his property was $3480.00 and total taxes paid was $27.34.

In 1871 the value on the 320 acres had dropped to $420.00, there were 20 horses valued at $65.00 each, 2 horses at $115.00 each, 2 horses at $100.00 and 1 horse at $40.00. He also owned 525 head of cattle valued at $1750.00, 4 at $20.00, 2 at $8.00 and 1 at $10.00. Misc. property was valued at $507.00. Total value of his property was $3250.00. It appears that J. R. sold some of his land to several people; Louis Brown, J. B. Brown, and E. Braddock. Research continues!
In 1872 the original 320 acres had regained their value and was worth $640.00 but the 200 acres had lost value down to only $200.00. He owned 22 horses valued at $660.00 and 525 head of cattle valued at $2625.00. He had $100.00 on hand and misc. property valued at $260.00. Total value of his property was $3645.00.

EORGIA ANN GREEN:
In 1860, Georgia was 38 years old and lived in Fairfield, Freestone Co., TX with her husband and three children.
Next door to the Brooke's in 1860, lived Sarah GREEN and her family. In 1880 in Coleman Co., TX "Amanda" was living with the Brooke's and her nephew J. G. Brooke. Thus the connection to the GREEN family.
