John was an amateur (Ham) radio operator with the FCC call sign of K3WWR.He was an avid experimenter and could build or fix almost anything.John and Mary along with other family members owned a Camp near Clear Creek State Park, Seigel Pa.They enjoyed hunting with both gun and bow and Arrow and spent many a weekend at the camp.
Tom Baustert has John's Baptism Certificate.Name on certificate Is Joannis Petrus Baustert.Parents are Nicholai Joannis Baustert and Annae Schmidt, both from Luxembourg.

J. Baustert Steelman, dies at 64
John P. Baustert, 64, Kiski Township, died yesterday (July 15, 1968) at 5:15 P.M. in his residence.
Born June 30, 1904, in Pittsburgh, he was a son of Nicholas J. and Anna Schmidt Baustert.
He was employed at the Vandergrift plant of United States Steel Corp., until retirement in 1954.
He was a member of the St. James Roman Catholic Church, Apollo; Loyal Order of Moose, Vandergrift; Kiski Valley CB Club and Karo Association Radio Club.He resided in the Vandergrift area 58 years.
Besides his widow, Mrs. Mary Hartman Baustert, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. William (Frances) Hamilton of Mays Landing N.J.; three sons: M. Sgt John E. of Ft. Devons, Mass., T. Sgt. James of Kincheloe Air Force Base, Mich., and Thomas E. of Rome N.Y.
Three brothers: Frank A. of Saginaw, Mich., and George and Ernest E. of Apollo; Four sisters: Mrs. Peter (Marie) Heyart of Jeddo Mich.; Mrs. Elizabeth McNamara of Tonawanda, N.Y.; Mrs. Roy (Theresa) Capwell of Palisades Park N.J., and Mrs. Clarence (Susan) Heuberger of Bradenton, Fla., and 18 grandchildren.
Friends will be received in the Bodenhorn and Schaffer Funeral Home, (successor to the N. Lee Roy King Funeral Home), 310 S. Second St., Apollo from 7 to 9 P.M. today and 2 to 4 P.M. and 7 to 9 P.M. tomorrow. A requiem high mass will be sung in Saint James Church at 09:30 A.M. Thursday with the Rev. Rudolph Halvonik, pastor, officiating.Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
