He married (1) MARY LEMON SIMMS⁴ in Richmond Co. Virginia⁴, daughter of WILLIAM SIMMS. He married (2) ELEANOR QUISENBERRY⁴, daughter of WILLIAM QUISENBERRY. She was born in Westmoreland, Virginia⁴, and died Aft. 1769 in Westmoreland, Virginia⁴.

Matthew Bayne was a lawyer and planter having a large estate in the Pope's Creek district of Westmoreland County. The connection with the Popes and the fact that the Baynes were all members of the Church of England support the theory that they were all worshippers at Pope's Creek Church, one of the original churches of Washington Parish, Westmoreland Co.

The Bayne coat-of-arms is accredited to Matthew Bayne and a copy is said to be in the possession of Edith Bayne Bently, (1980). This may have been the Arms of the Chief of the Clan MacBean of Scotland.
