The Rushings of Anson/Union and Mecklenburg Counties,NC

I am brand new at searching for my roots. I know nothing about anyone pior to my great-grandfather, Eli(Possibly Ellis or Eli____) Shepherd Rushing. Born 5/6/1860. Died 6/2/1944. Lived possibly in Anson/Union Counties, NC before moving to Mecklenburg County. He was married three times (all wives died before him) and had three sons with first wife. He is buried in Wilson Grove Cemetery on the outskirts of Charlotte, NC. He may have been of German heritage, but I have nothing to prove that.
