Jonathan Beal, Jr. was born on January 13, 1767 in Bath, Maine. He was the son of Mary (Joy) and Jonathan Beale, Sr.
About 1790, Jonathan settled in Durham, Maine living on the west end of Lot 61. This was farmland, so he was a farmer, while his father operated Beal's Landing and Ferry site on the east end of Lot 61.
Jonathan married Lucy Doughty of Topsham, Maine on January 16, 1792 in Topsham, Maine. Lucy's parents were Hannah (Wallace) & Stephen Doughty. Stephen Doughty was a veteran of the Revolutionary War. Lucy was born on August 16, 1768 in Harpswell, Maine. The name "Doughty" can also be found spelled as "Doty". Jonathan & Lucy filed their marriage intention in the Town of Durham, Maine on December 18, 1791. They had the following children (all born in Durham, Maine):

Jonathan lived most of his life in Durham, Maine. The United States Census Index shows that he was living in Durham in the years 1810, 1820, 1830 and 1840.
Lucy died on January 17, 1844 in Durham, Maine. Jonathan died on January 13, 1847 (on his birthday) in Durham, Maine. They are buried next to each to each other at the Littlefield Cemetery on Brickyard Hill Road near Newell Brook Road. The cemetery is located a short distance from where Lot 61 was in Durham, Maine.
