Amos moved to Mohawk Valley, New York than to Canada.
In the War of 1812 the British tried to press him into their army, but with his wife and oldest son they crossed Lake Ontario in a open boat and afterwards served as a soldier under General Scott at the Battle of Lundy's Lane. He was also at the crossing of the British troops at Black Rock, New York and the burning of Buffalo.
He first settled in Alden, New York, thence removed to Buffalo, where he resided nine years, where he resided nine years, thence to Bennington, New York, and in 1847 he removed to Ionia, Michigan.
