The Last Will and Testament of MORRIS RAMSAY (June 4, 1848-December 29, 1892) "No. 12 of 1893 Will of Morris Ramsay, deceased I Morris Ramsay of East Huntington Township Westmoreland County Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory do make and publish this my last will and testament in the manner following, viz: 1st. I wish all my just debts and funeral expenses to be first paid by my executors hereinafter named. 2nd. I will and bequeath to my wife Sadie M. Ramsay all my household and kitchen furniture to be hers absolutely. 3rd. I will and bequeath to my son Robert A. Ramsay my library and all my surveying instruments and my gold watch and by book cases and writing desk. And the same to be his absolutely, and the same to be given to him immediately upon my decease and his own receipt to my executors shall be sufficient therefore. 4th. I will and bequeath that the one thousand ($1,000) which I hold as a trustee for my son George M. Ramsay shall be invested by my executors to the best advantage and the income derived therefrom to be paid by my executors annually or oftener to my wife or George's guardian until my son shall arrive at the age of twenty one years, and after his arrival at the age of twenty one years, the said sum of one thousand dollars to be paid by my executors to my said son or only the income annually thereon as may deem best to my executors. 5th. I have three insurance policies, viz: a) in the Ancient Order of United Workmen for two thousand dollars; b) in the Brooklin Life Insurance Company of New York for one thousand dollars; c) in the Mutual Reserve fund life association for five thousand dollars-all of which said three policies are now payable to my wife Sadie M. Ramsay. It is my intention and desire to have all of the said three policies so changed as to be made payable to my estate or legal representatives. And should I not succeed in having the same done before my decease, it is my will that my wife turn over to my executors the sum total of said three policies of insurance, to wit: $8,000 and the same to be then considered as part of my personal estate in the hands of my executors. 6th. I will and direct that my executors hereinafter named shall take charge of any real estate wherever situate and manage the same, pay taxes, collect rents, keep up repairs and control the rents, keep up repairs and control the same in a general way and the net proceeds derived therefrom to be applied as follows, viz: the one third thereof to be paid to my wife during her natural life or widowhood, the other two thirds to be paid to my wife for the education and support of such as any children as may remain at home with their mother or under her control or direction until they arrive at the age of twenty one years. In case of the death or remarriage of my wife before my youngest child arrives at the age of twenty one years, then the whole of the said income shall be paid by my executors annually to the guardians of such of my children as may be under twenty one years of age, up until the youngest child arrives at the age of twenty one years. 7th. As to the real estate I have inherited from my parents together with any brothers and sisters I direct that my executors take charge of and manage the same as stated in Section 6th of this my last will and testament, and should the other heirs at any time wish to sell the said real estate, I give my executors full power and authority to join in such sale for such prices as may deem best for any estate to my executors, and to sign, execute and deliver the purchase or purchaser's deed or deeds for any interest therein. 8th. All my estate not hereinbefore disposed of to my wife in Sec. 2 of this my last will and testament and to my son Robert A. in Sec. 3 of this my last will and testament, I direct my executors to invest in real estate and the management and control of such real estate to be in them as provided in Section 6 of this my last will and testament, they to have the deeds made to them in trust for my estate. My said executors to use their own good judgment in the selection of real estate and the investing of my estate in real estate. 9th. It is my will that when my youngest child arrives the age of twenty one years that my executors shall dispose of my real estate both that of which I may die seized, and also that which my executors may acquire in trust for my estate under the directions of this my last will and testament, my executors to have full power to sell at private or public sale, and to make deed or deeds for the property or properties sold, one third of the sale price of each piece of real estate to be secured by mortgage on the premises and to be and remain a lieu on the same and the interest thereon to be paid annually to my wife during her natural life and at her death the said one third to be paid to my legal heirs and representatives the other two thirds to be paid to any children or their heirs share and share alike. Or should it deem best to my executors they may pay but the interest and that annually or any share of any child to said child or his guardian for so long a time as my executors may deem it wise and to the best interest of any children, none of my children to have or receive the principal of their money in any event until they arrive at the age of twenty one years, And lastly I nominate, constitute and appoint my wife Sadie M. Ramsay and my brothers Robert Ramsay and George S. Ramsay Executors of this my last will and testament; and in case of death, resignation or inability to act of any of all of the above named Executors I recommend the appointment of the following named in the order they are named as a vacancy may occur viz: my nephew Erskine Ramsay, my son William Ramsay and my son in law James H. Morris Ramsay (seal) We the witnesses at the request of the testator who declared this to be his last will and testament in presence of the testator and in the presence of each did witness the testator's signature to this last will and testament. On the first page between 15 line and 16 line the words "and book cases and writing desk" were underlined before signing by the testator. Jeff W. Saylor William S. Ramsay, the executors named therein who were sworn. Testator died 29 December 1892 at 11:00 p.m. William B. Conway, Regtr." (Morris' testament is handwritten by a clerk in Will Book 8, pp. 596-7, at the Westmoreland County Courthouse. There is no signature. Paragraphs have been added for readability. The testament is one long paragraph in the will book. It's interesting to note that Morris' will was signed just less than two months before his death in a carriage accident. Also, his personal items were bequeathed to my grandfather, Robert A. Ramsay, who was just eight years old when the will was written. George M. Ramsay was fourteen at the time. Of Morris' other children not personally mentioned in the will: William and Sadie had both been married the previous year; Sharpe was eighteen; Hannah was sixteen; Mary Christina was eleven; Alice was six; Adelaide was nine months old. Janet and Nellie had died the previous year during a diptheria epidemic.) The Last Will and Testament of SADIE MARIA GREER RAMSAY (January 1, 1853-July 12, 1927) "No. 443 of 1927. Will of Sadie M. Ramsay, alias dictus SADIE MARIA GREER RAMSAY, late of Mt. Pleasant Borough, Deceased. Last will and Testament In the name of God Amen. I, Sadie Maria Greer Ramsay of Mount Pleasant Westmoreland County Pennsylvania being of sound mind and memory do hereby make, publish and declare this to be my last will and test in manner and form following. First. I direct that all my just debts be fully paid and satisfied as soon as conveniently may be after my decease. Second. I give and bequeath to my son William Ramsay the Ramsay family Bible. Third. I give and bequeath to my daughter Saidee M. Ramsay Eaton, swell front marble top walnut bureau, brown shawl, one box pattern woolen quilt, one opal ring for her son James H. Eaton and one ruby ring for her son Morris R. Eaton-rings their father gave to me. Fourth. I give and bequeath to Morris R. Saunders and Emmor M. Saunders Jr. sons of Sharpe Ramsay Saunders (deceased) each one dollar. Fifth. I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah G. Ramsay Shields the hat rack my father made, one silver tea spoon engraved S.G. Sixth. I give and bequeath to my son George M. Ramsay one oak bed-bureau and washstand. Seventh. I give and bequeath to my daughter M. Christina Ramsay Stahl one regular size down bed hap, one pair feather pillows, one ring opal and emerald setting. Eighth. I give and bequeath to my son Robert A. Ramsay the large crayon picture of his father (to hold in trust for his son Morris Ramsay) mahogany sofa and six chairs hair cloth upholstered. Ninth. I give and bequeath to my daughter Alice I. Ramsay my small crib bed and small rocking chair, my mother's mahogany bureau, with glass knobs, feather bed, bolster and pair of pillows, large down bed hap, silk quilt, old coverlid counterpane, Indian blanket, Shephard's plaid shawl, family picture with walnut frame, victrola and records, radio garnet brooch and large garnet ring, gold watch and chain, silver cake or fruit basket from my father. Tenth. I give and bequeath to my daughter Adelaide F. Ramsay Clarke, my piano, my mother's mahogany sewing chair, walnut bed room suite, my amethist ring and cairngoram pin, family picture with gilt frame, one feather bed-bolster and pair of pillows, one silk quilt, silver sugar urn from my father, five silver teaspoons, engraved S.M.G., one set pearl handled nut picks and cracker, white silk shawl. Eleventh. I give and bequeath to Saidee M. Ramsay Eaton One hundred dollars. Hannah G. Ramsay Shields One hundred dollars. M. Christina Ramsay Stahl One hundred dollars. Adelaide F. I give and bequeath all moneys invested in mortgages, stocks, bonds or banks less the sum (seven hundred and two dollars) heretofore mentioned. All my real and personal belongings, household goods, furniture, book cases, sewing machine, pictures, linens, padding, carpets, silver, china, glassware, wearing apparel, everything I die possessed of not mentioned heretofore, to my daughter Alice I. Ramsay. Thirteenth. I hereby appoint my daughter Alice I. Ramsay executrix of this my last will and testament.
