Preface

"WHAT YOU HAVE INHERITED FROM YOUR FATHERS, REBUILD IT WITHIN YOURSELVES, TO POSSESS IT." ---Goethe

Throughout the years ideals, beliefs, morals, and principles have been passed on from generation to generation. If the truth was known, and we could travel back through time, I believe that if we were to meet with our earliest known ancestor, he/she would basically be just like we are today. I don't really think that there would be much difference between who they were and who we are deep inside. Our beliefs, passions, tolerance and commitments would be the same. That is our immortality. It is what we have ultimately inherited from our forefathers and what we will all continue to pass along to our children, generation after generation after generation, until the end of time. Our responsibility to this inheritance is to recognize it, nurture it, embrace it, rebuild it within ourselves and then pass it on. This is our legacy and ultimately, our responsibility.
This is my journey. My attempt to capture that which I have inherited, to embrace it and to build upon it, so that I might understand where I came from and with this understanding (I hope) comes the ability to be a better person and I hope that I have the wisdom and the generosity to pass it on.
